look I hope this does well, this deco/scifi look reads super y2k coded to me (very "new tomorrowland") but there's a charm to sticking to that vision after so many years, but
ngl it feels like the leads are kinda cardboard-cutout noir archetypes w/o distinct personalities...

The film follows a private detective who is drawn into a case involving aliens & murder in the alternate futuristic city Metropia.

Ran is amazing & deserves all the plaudits but I hope ppl realise that Kurosawa spent years making oil paintings of the visuals to storyboard this film which is a big reason why it looks so good. It wasn’t a “random” film, it was Kurosawa’s (one of the greats) “Metropolis”.
