An honest conversation has to take place if our country is going to survive. Not a loyalty test. Not another round of excuses. An actual conversation about the choices that have produced the problems, as well as the choices that keep making it worse. Even if it hurts your ego. Even if it makes you uncomfortable. Especially then. Because the alternative is more denial, more doubling down, and the same mistake wearing a new justification. Having that conversation does not make a person a traitor. It does not mean they are not a patriot. Those words have been stretched until they mean little more than “agrees with us” and “disagrees with us.” The definitions need to be examined. Patriotism is not silence. Loyalty is not the refusal to look at facts. A country cannot correct course if the people willing to tell the truth are treated as enemies for doing it. People are brittle, allergic to reality, and it seems that there will be no lessons learned. There will be no serious look at what happened, why it happened, or what has to change going forward. The cult will double down on their cope, invent new villains, and blame everything except the actual problem.
