Three days ago the Guardian was still carefully dismantling his claim that he had been non-verbal as a child like it even matters in the grand scheme of things. What stayed with me was that even the people contradicting him described a boy who sang songs and always wanted to entertain. That detail feels important. People who fabricate, embellish or tell little white lies are rarely monsters. More often they are vulnerable, insecure, and quietly convinced they are not enough. That makes me very sad. He was vulnerable and very cornered.
