With the City case reaching its reckoning, I kept thinking about Arsene and just how long ago he was warning us about where football was headed. I also really enjoy writing in the second person, and Wenger’s story felt particularly suited to it. So I wrote about what it might feel like to live through Tapie’s Marseille, Roman’s Chelsea and Abu Dhabi’s City, to keep warning people about financial doping, and to be mocked as yesterday’s man while doing it. mickeywestside.substack.com/…

You’re saying this about the reigning Premier League champion btw. None of those managers were sacked immediately after winning the league. The complete lack of shame required to post this after watching Arteta lift the trophy a few months ago is genuinely impressive.
Chelsea sacked Carlo Ancelotti after winning a Premier League title and FA cup in his first season. Antonio Conte was sacked after winning two major trophies in two seasons. Tuchel was sacked after winning three major trophies in his two seasons with Chelsea. Maresca was sacked after winning two major trophies. Arsenal on the other hand has rewarded Arteta a new contract after winning one trophy in 8 years. Yeah, we're not the same. The standards of these two clubs are different.

I will never forgive that sadistic brute. He deserved nothing.
Sorry to defend my guy but Shawcross was one of the best players of a regular mid-table Premier league side during that time... I don't think giving a cap to our 6th best centre back is that problematic really

Always amused at how similar life is across Commonwealth countries
Every millennial who liked to read in India followed a predictable trajectory of reading Enid Blytons, Agatha Christie, Jeffrey Archer and John Grisham before moving on to other authors. Which is my TL is full of eulogies for Jeffrey Archer.

There’s something revealing about asking why conservatives succeed and then immediately describing Democrats as the people you’re fighting “tooth and nail
Why do American conservatives get everything they wanted but American leftists have to fight tooth and nail against even Democrats to get anything close to what they wanted?

Rooney’s dive never got a fraction of the moral outrage or column inches that Pires vs Portsmouth or Eduardo vs Celtic got. And now apparently we’ve reached the point where the collective memory of Rooney is that he never dived. I am going to start throwing furniture.

Can’t stand Arsenal. But this decision is one of the worst I’ve ever seen. Look at the score and the time it happened as well

I don’t know if it’s despite or partly because of their massive international success, but I’ve always felt like Black Americans don’t love and embrace Boyz II Men quite as much as they deserve.
Good morning. Presented for the timeline’s approval, I would like to kindly request that we shift the discourse today from debating Babyface to slandering Boyz II Men. Let’s end this week with a bang.

They were so spectacularly successful that they almost transcended being perceived as a specifically Black R&B group and became mainstream adult-contemporary royalty. But there’s no reason the group that gave us Motownphilly, End of the Road, A Song for Mama, On Bended Knee, Water Runs Dry, 4 Seasons of Loneliness etc. should receive this much slander

Very good article about Arsene Wenger 👏👏👏 He knew!

During a recent interview for Hot 107.9 Atlanta, acclaimed artist Rapsody strongly defended Jay-Z's legacy, stating that anyone who questions his position as the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) fundamentally "doesn't know music" “Maybe that's because of generation or whatever. But anybody that's going to argue why JAŸ-Z is considered the greatest of all time, you don't know music. And I don't have conversations with people that... I don't... there's no point. Why am I wasting time with you? Like, you know, you can have fun debates on why that person is your favorite, but to say... get out of here. I don't.”

People who claim The Wire is copaganda are in the bottom 10th percentile of society.

The show absolutely went over their heads, but giving them credit for misunderstanding it independently is too generous. They heard someone they consider smart call it copaganda, adopted it wholesale, and now repeat it because they think it makes them sound deep.

There is a picture of Ivan Gazidis in the dictionary next to the phrase “bush league”
I totally get it but how the fuck are spurs earning more than us??? We won 3 FA Cups in this period, they won NOTHING!! Liverpool only won a league cup in this period but they are the bigger club so I get that one. Spurs need investigating next 👀
