I think rival fans need to educate themselves on Arsenal (thread)
Wenger inherited a cup team with a great defence and Bergkamp. He spent £15m to add Vieira, Petit, Overmars and Anelka. And won the double.
As that team broke up, he built the invincibles team for another £35m
Do the likes of Villa, Everton and Newcastle fans realise that 2 of the places at the top of English football have been taken by cheating & financial doping?
2 places that would likely have been for them, hundreds of millions of pounds lost, trophies & champions league football.
1. “We didn’t cheat.”
2. “And if we cheated, it wasn’t that bad.”
3. “And if it was, cheating didn’t make much difference.”
4. “And if it did, everyone else was cheating.”
5. “And if they weren’t cheating, the rules were unfair anyway.”
6. “And even if we cheated, you only care because we beat you.”
7. “And if we beat you, we beat you on the field.”
With the City case reaching its reckoning, I kept thinking about Arsene and just how long ago he was warning us about where football was headed.
I also really enjoy writing in the second person, and Wenger’s story felt particularly suited to it.
So I wrote about what it might feel like to live through Tapie’s Marseille, Roman’s Chelsea and Abu Dhabi’s City, to keep warning people about financial doping, and to be mocked as yesterday’s man while doing it.

If the super wealthy owners want a free for all, why not set up 12 brand new teams and go on a LIV golf, NFL style world tour.
All the mercenary players can have a pay day and when people stop giving a shit about it after 2-3 years we can all go back to normal.

We won (14) league titles in the 30s, 40s, 50s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s and last season. As well as having the record amount of FA cups (14)
We are a historically successful and well run club and have earned the position that we are in today. Like Utd, L'pool and spurs.
City and Chelsea came in with their sugar daddies and bought success. Now they want sympathy for breaking the rules.
When they are largely responsible for inflating the market to such an obscene level that only a few well run clubs can cope.
Look at what Wenger did in a 9 year period. And that started from when we were just crowned invincibles.
Gross spend was an average of £40m per year and we never failed to qualify for the champions league in that time.
We are reaping the rewards now and people judge us for it.
Football tribalism has gotten so bad that some clubs fans are defending the biggest cheats in the history of English football and becoming legal experts to find any way to point the blame at anyone but Sham City.
Or is it all to do with the monetisation of football social media?
Can someone please point me to when there was a more competitive/egalitarian era than the one we’re in?
3 different PL winners in 3 years
Villa, Newcastle United playing UCL football
Palace winning 3 trophies
Brighton, Sunderland and Bournemouth in Europe
United have finished below 6th thrice in 5 years
Chelsea have finished 10th or below thrice in 5 years
Spurs finished 17th back to back and are currently 20th
Last season the gap btw 4th and 11th was 13 points
When has it ever been more competitive? When have the biggest clubs all been this far from the top?
"The Premier League rules are always gonna keep the biggest clubs at the top"
“If you can keep investing in any other business until it succeeds, why should football be different?”
The Premier League rules are UNFAIR!
Great to see Gyokeres get 2 in 2 for Sweden.
Watched the game tonight and was very worried after a stinker of a first half, but he has been excellent 2nd half and scored a nice goal.
We desperately need him to find some confidence and form.
Deliberately injuring a another player is almost as low as you can get in football.
But would expect nothing less from that little rat. That is violent conduct and should really have been a red card.
