💔 “Hit a mine or die of hunger”: residents of Oleshky are trying to escape the city on their own
According to Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, dozens of residents of occupied Oleshky are leaving the city today however they can — by bicycle, moped and on foot. There is no organized evacuation.
People are taking enormous risks: roads and roadsides may be mined. But, according to Lubinets, for many, staying in the city means dying from hunger and disease.
Ukraine is urging its international partners to push for humanitarian access and a safe corridor for civilians.
🤬 Russian forces are seizing humanitarian aid in occupied Oleshky
According to Kherson regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin, around 2,000 people, including nearly 50 children, remain in the city without reliable access to food, water or electricity.
Ukraine is trying to deliver food across the Dnipro by drone, but Prokudin says Russian forces shoot down the drones, seize or resell the supplies, and detain local residents for receiving aid.
Footage is also circulating on social media today showing the bodies of Oleshky residents who were allegedly killed by mines while trying to travel in search of food. The video was published by pro-war Russian correspondent Alexander Kots.
