An explosive device detonated outside Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Hama, Syria, on September 13, damaging the church just hours before Orthodox Christians celebrated the Feast of the Holy Cross. No one was injured, but windows were shattered and the surrounding area was damaged.
The cathedral normally serves around 1,000 worshippers. The attackers have not been identified.
After the attack was publicized, Christian monitoring groups also reported hostile online messages, including a threat warning Christians that “worse and more bitter” times are still to come.
