I live in an area with a two tier local government. The lower tier is responsible for refuse collection and the corresponding tax is £100 per year.

You said it is a 40% tax. So already you got your facts wrong.
Perhaps people should be careful what they say if it is going to impact others mental health.

Except that is the cost of the project divided by the track distance from London to Birmingham.
The project includes rebuilding Euston (necessary regardless) and new rolling stock (required as well).
Repeated rebasing of the timeline and changes to the route added to the cost.

There is no plan to redistribute money from HS2 to a planned upgrade of the rail networks across the North.
HS2 was a fundamental part of NPR.
More lies and obfuscation, but no vision.
If reports are true and HS2 is to be scrapped this can ONLY be good news for the North. At last funds from this expensive, overpriced White Elephant can be released to give us the East West connectivity we actually need & want.
