The ENDF 🇪🇹 seized a striking haul from a TDF/TPLF warehouse in Mekelle: dozens of Chinese 🇨🇳 GB-25 laser-guided drone munitions, US 🇺🇸 Mk 82 and Russian 🇷🇺 FAB GP bombs, R-60M/R-73 air-to-air missiles, and dismantled UAVs that appear to be Iranian 🇮🇷 Mohajer-6 drones.

Multiple sources told AFP that #Eritrean troops were in Adigrat, around 115 kilometres (70 miles) north of Mekelle, in the #Tigray region of #Ethiopia and were pushing south. "The Eritrean army has entered Tigray in uniform, equipped with heavy weaponry," said Gebreigziabher Beyene, commander of the Tigray Peace Force, a pro-government militia that has fought alongside the federal army. "This force is being struck by drones," he said, adding Eritrea was "deliberately deploying its forces so that the fighting takes place inside Tigray rather than spilling into Eritrea". msn.com/en-us/news/world/eri…

The #US Embassy in Addis Ababa, #Ethiopia is aware of reports of possible long-range attacks directed at Ethiopian military installations on several instances in October of this year. U.S. citizens should accordingly exercise caution and follow the advice of local authorities. U.S. citizens are advised not to travel to the #Amhara Region (including Lalibela), the #Tigray Region, or the #Afar Region for any reason. U.S. citizens in those areas are advised to leave if it is safe to do so or shelter in place until conditions improve, monitor local media for updates, and stay in touch with their airline for notifications on operations. Internet and phone connectivity could be interrupted at any time. et.usembassy.gov/security-al…

A video that shows the #Tigray Peace Forces (#TPF), allied with the federal government, entering Mekele and moving inside the city. The people of Tigray are weary of war, but that does not necessarily mean they support the TPF or the #TPLF, though some may support one side or the other. It remains to be seen. youtube.com/watch?v=ND_Ye3vK…

The #Eritrean regime has been at war with its people for the last 35 years; it has failed even to provide basic services such as clean drinking water and health services. It is heavily involved in the Sudan civil war by arming tribal militias there; it committed atrocities in Tigray fighting along with #Ethiopia's federal government (2020 - 2023); it is currently allied with its former victim, the #TPLF, against the federal government and failed to come to its rescue. Its dictator opened up Abiy's appetite for Red Sea access during their honeymoon. It should be the last one to advise other neighbouring countries on how to run their countries. Allying with the Eritrean regime is like allying with the devil.

From the @newlinesmag archives: Ethiopia’s Abiy Ahmed is pushing for a route to the sea, while Eritrea’s Isaias Afwerki is digging in to resist. Between them lies a fragile peace that could break with a single misstep, argues @mkheirom. f.mtr.cool/30sphnd97z

Al Jazeera's #Ethiopia bureau chief, Mohamed Taha Tewekel, reports from Mekelle, the capital city of the #Tigray Regional State: "Life gradually returns to the city, where people have suffered a lot from many issues such as war, loss of loved ones, displacement, loss of income, a rise in food prices, and a lack of basic services. With the resumption of communications and basic services, they people cautiously looked forward to the resumption of all services in education, health, water, electricity, and markets and want to live ordinary lives." It is worthy to note that Aljazeera is the only foreign media allowed to report from the areas controlled by the Ethiopian government.

I spoke with my friend, Ethiopian Foreign Minister @GHessebon about the recent developments in Ethiopia. We discussed the importance of Ethiopia’s unity and stability, and our shared interest in preserving peace and stability in the Horn of Africa. Israel greatly values its longstanding close friendship with Ethiopia and looks forward to further strengthening the ties between our countries. 🇮🇱🤝🇪🇹

My latest: The #TPLF’s withdrawal from Mekelle on 3 October may mark the end of an era in Tigrayan politics. It dominated Ethiopia’s federal government for almost three decades, ruled #Tigray with an iron fist, and later held Tigray through a devastating war. It now faces an uncertain future. Its retreat has weakened the newly formed rebel alliance against Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and altered regional actors’ calculations, particularly Eritrea, which hoped to use it against Addis Ababa. Yet a military victory alone will not resolve the grievances that brought #Ethiopia to this point. panafricanreview.com/tplfs-p…

Reuters gains access to #Eritrea. Tightly controlled internet access is sparse and slow. Few people bother staring at phones. Young people drink unlabeled bottles of beer from the state-owned factory. Almost no cars can be seen on the streets amid severe government fuel rationing, save a few battered taxis.
The Iran war has made Eritrea's Red Sea coast more strategically important, and the country says it's now ready to open up. Reuters got access to one of the world's most secretive countries reut.rs/4zA8emT

The joint statement of the summit between Egypt, Eritrea, Sudan, and Somalia mentions international law 2 times, territorial integrity 4 times, sovereignty 5 times and Ethiopia 0 times. And yet its clear what it's all about. Its a list of shared grievances and priorities that ignores the conflict at the center of the region that brought them all together. And yet, it takes aim at Ethiopia in ways both passive and aggressive: supporting Sudan's territorial integrity; rejecting Somaliland recognition; reinforcing the exclusive role of Red Sea littoral states to security and freedom of navigation; rejecting unilateral moves on use of Nile waters. On this day we remember the 368, mostly Eritrean, lives lost due to the Lampedusa tragedy. Young men and women forced to flee their country because the PFDJ regime keeps them trapped in poverty, a corrupt and evil regime that believes all profit should stay in their pockets.
