I don't want her tortured; I want her fucking dead. Which is better than she wanted for the girl she tortured and killed.
Christa Pike committed horrific crimes. That does not mean she should be tortured. In fact, our Constitution prohibits it. It is disturbing to see so many vengeful social media posts discussing this case that choose to disregard our Constitution.
We must abolish the death penalty. Life without parole works as punishment for heinous crimes by removing the threat to society. If we abolish the death penalty, the attention currently being given to those cases could be redirected to cases of life without parole. Sadly, those who have been wrongfully convicted who receive life sentences without the possibility of parole are most often locked in a box and forgotten. States should provide the same resources to these cases that are currently dedicated to death penalty cases.
Data shows that the death penalty provides no closure for families of victims , and it costs far more than life without parole. It dominates headlines, and drains resources that could be put to better use. Let’s work to protect society by locking up perpetrators of heinous crimes. And let’s make sure that every person serving life sentences without parole actually committed the crimes they are incarcerated for. Abolishing the death penalty is the first step in this process.
