Questions about how the “war powers” work in practice? Check out my piece in @apsrjournal. TL;DR President is far more constrained by Congress that usually realized.

"What a stupid question." President Trump fires back at a reporter who asked whether he has ruled out using a nuclear weapon against Iran. "They're totally defeated militarily. So now I defeat them, and now I should use a nuclear weapon on top of them? What a stupid question."

Happy Fourth to the James Madison program. And long may Americans be blessed by the same special providence so freely bestowed on drunks and fools!
Madison's Notes has a special Fourth of July episode: "250 Years of Special Providence." To close the season out, host @RyanShinkel interviews Walter Russell Mead (@wrmead), the foreign policy scholar, @HudsonInstitute fellow, @WSJ columnist, and professor at @UF Hamilton School, to discuss American grand strategy. Drawing on his book, Special Providence, they discuss the four schools of American foreign policy since the Declaration of Independence: the Hamiltonians, Jeffersonians, Wilsonians, and Jacksonians; and how they are holding up today. Happy Fourth of July. And Happy America250. Please enjoy: apple.co/4w31XyJ

Very sad to hear this news. Susan was such an incredibly kind, generous person, and she worked tirelessly to help others. I was very fortunate to have known her and to have benefited from her help during my time at Belfer. I will miss her very much.
Belferite friends, terrible news. Our friend Susan Lynch died this weekend. Susan was the heart of the ISP and MTA programs. She helped hundreds of fellows and visitors over her 24 years here with her kindness and great efficiency. @IntSecHarvard @BelferCenter
