When a community passes a “data center moratorium”, its leadership is either… A) Admitting they were lazy and their zoning ordinances are too old. B) Politically pandering to curry favor. Take your pick.

You think Jim McGoff didn’t do his job correctly? Bold take. I don’t think I’ve meet a more intelligent and diligent public servant than Jim during my time in office.
I made sure Mayor Matt Gentry @mtgent - and his records - are included this time in my oversight inquiry. Sounds like he’s heartbroken that the Indiana Finance Authority (IFA) didn’t invite him to our meetings with local elected officials two years ago.

I have no idea what IFC is other than a channel on tv. My records are a matter of public record so nothing to hide here 🤷‍♂️. If you have any questions, feel free to stop by or pick up the phone. You can find my office number on google.

You claim 2 years but you’ve never once bothered to pick up phone or stop by my office to ask me about it? Blatant political pandering. You must be down in your internal polls. Go throw a laptop at a staffer.
For two years, I’ve raised concerns about the massive energy and infrastructure demands of data centers and LEAP’s water demands. After hearing growing concerns at my recent town halls, I’m seeking an independent federal review. Who pays? Higher utility bills? Blackouts? What about our water? See below for more details. spartz.house.gov/media/press…

I’ll save this post then wait with bated breath for your apology (unlikely) when we issue property tax rebates to residents.
nitter.net/mtgent/status/20785073… "Why would we not eliminate property taxes for homeowners?" It's simple, Matt. You are all greedy.

When Lilly and Meta are fully built the City of Lebanon will get about $17.5M/yr from IDD and Community Impact payments. Our entire city budget is about $25M. Owner-occupied housings pays about $4M in property taxes. Why would we not eliminate property taxes for homeowners?
IMO, this is one of the top 10 interviews @RobMKendall has done with @mtgent. I recommend everyone give it a watch. I 100% agree with Rob. Not every community needs to chase growth for growth's sake. If endless development destroys the open space, rural character, and sense of community that made people want to live there in the first place, what exactly are we preserving? Growth should have a purpose, not just a bigger population. Also, let's be honest, there is no way property taxes are getting eliminated in the area because of Lilly. That said, credit where it's due. Gentry has stayed consistent with his GDP bro views, always has an explanation ready, and will stay in the pocket with Rob to defend them SAUCE: piped.video/ZgBWCFxG4vY?si=Aa4s…

Woah there @jstewartIndy. Eminent domain has NEVER been used for IEDC property acquisition (and cannot be done legally). Entities (not IEDC) can only use eminent domain for utility or road infrastructure which serves the public good. Cannot be used for private companies.
Good column from @sarahofindiana. Eminent domain is increasingly being used solely for the benefit of large, private corporations. Morgan County residents’ property rights are being violated so a utility can serve a data center. Indianapolis & Lebanon residents’ property rights are being violated so the IEDC can build a tech park for a data center and more private businesses.

Tune into the @RobMKendall show tomorrow. Rob and I chat about some hot topics including the proposed Police Station and Meta construction. No punches 🥊 were thrown and no blood 🩸was split! Always happy to talk through the issues!

Now it’s time for Indiana to go get the @Bengals 😂 Right @camsavage and @nkellyIN?

These are your options. Choose wisely.
Indiana Gov. Mike Braun wants to eliminate property taxes for seniors and those who have paid off their mortgage. This is the same state government that removed tax relief for first time homeowners in a property tax bill last year because it would have allegedly harmed local schools. Yet under this proposal, Braun would pay zero dollars in property taxes on his huge, nearly 10,000 square foot home with hundreds of thousands of dollars of taxpayer-funded improvements. The hypocrisy & hatred of young adults here is insane. It’s incredibly anti-family.

Bad take. @PierceForIN you are underestimating how challenging the environment will be for the GOP this Fall. It reminds me of 2006. Dems have the first real shot to win a statewide office since 2016 (Gov before Trump picked Pence as VP). GOP in-fighting doesn’t matter to Dems.
Here is the reality… Beau’s whole Democrat nomination in the convention could be in trouble if Diego drops. I’ve talked with Democrats, Beau doesn’t have it locked up, and this could hurt his campaign. If his delegates think it’s futile, some will start asking why not nominate his opponent who has been around for much longer.

In fairness, the one party guy who publicly said out loud long ago Diego was a complete piece of garbage and gots to go was @mtgent. Credit where credit is due.

Holli Sullivan watching all the Indiana GOP SoS drama over the last 36 hours… If anyone else has come to agree with my opinion that all Statewide candidates should be elected by actual voters; just raise your hand. Vox Populi, Vox Dei.

I wrote a piece for the @indystar on how our Indiana cities and towns can benefit from data centers when done right — strong community payments, infrastructure upgrades, and growth that pays for growth. Read it here: indystar.com/story/opinion/2…

Am I not a “team-playing Republican”? I was pretty clear how unsuitable Diego was back in early April on the @RobMKendall show.
No team-playing Republican was saying this about Diego Morales a week ago. I’d be interested in hearing exactly when and how Morales crossed the line from suitable to unsuitable and how that standard might apply to other candidates and office-holders.

Learned something new today… Donuts are exempt from Indiana’s Food and Beverage taxes. They are taxed if they are heated or served heated or with utensils. I underestimated the power of Big Donut at the Indiana statehouse 😂

Why does someone in Bangladesh manage a facebook page focused on life in Indiana? 🤔 Almost all of the posts are anti-data center AI slop. It has attracted about 40k followers in a little more than a year. And there are others…

This is why smart local leaders have TIFed commercial investments over the last 2 decades and negotiate “Community Impact Payments” or PILOTs from data centers. The lucky ones have IDDs which provide a minimum 12% share of revenue payments that are outside of property tax levies.
Replying to @aaron_renn
This is why Carmel was smart for taking out over a billion $ in cheap debt. Debt is one of a few ways Indiana governing bodies can raise money for public goods.
