Keep an eye on this diesel shortage issue. I admittedly lack the economic analysis capabilities and knowledge of logistics to make reasonable predictions on prices. But consider: Gasoline moves people around in cars, and a lot of it is unessential travel. Diesel powers freight movement, farm equipment, industry. It directly hits food prices and all movement of products across the country. If someone wanted to create real deprivation and famine, they’d go after diesel. Spoiler alert: they are going after diesel.

A Seattle man has been sentenced to 17 years in federal prison after prosecutors say he recruited juveniles, armed them with guns and helped send them into marijuana dispensaries and banks during a months-long robbery spree across the Puget Sound region. Michael Keylon Miller-Jimerson, 26, admitted to playing a leadership role in the robberies, which stretched from December 2021 through June 2022. Prosecutors say the adults would select targets and use juveniles to carry out some of the most dangerous parts of the robberies while they acted as getaway drivers. The most serious incident happened at World of Weed in Tacoma in March 2022. According to court records, Miller-Jimerson waited outside while armed juveniles entered the dispensary, where a 15-year-old participant shot and killed an employee during the robbery. Despite the killing, prosecutors say the robbery spree continued. Miller-Jimerson and others later shifted from dispensaries to banks, including a Seattle-area credit union where armed juveniles allegedly forced employees to open safes. Miller-Jimerson’s 17-year federal sentence will run concurrently with a 15-year state sentence he received in connection with the deadly robbery. He will also face five years of supervised release.
