Thank you for writing this - it provides the literature and a clear, coherent argument to support a position I wholeheartedly agree with.

Nicole Brunker is right, “Broad understanding of the problem is needed beyond academic discourse.” The problem is (I think) that this piece is not pitched the reasonably informed non-educator. A plain English backgrounder to the issues would be useful.
Escape Oppression Now: Disrupt the Dominance of Evidence-Based Practice blog.aare.edu.au/escape-oppr… via @AustAssocResEd @BenCarrollMP this might help. In short, evidence isn’t proof, it needs to be interpreted. We need to #trustteachers to do this interpretation

Yes! The real distinction is not between inquiry based and explicit, it’s between explicit teaching being provided at the point of need during meaningful, engaged learning, and explicit teaching being provided on a schedule in big decontextualised, undifferentiated data dumps.

#MTeachFoundations anyone exploring streaming as issue of choice to tease out the dilemma? Here’s a useful place to start reading and thinking
“When teacher expectations are low, the students are placed into low-level ability groups or streams, often completing mundane, repetitive tasks. Certainly, their learning activities are very different to those of students in the top groups or streams.” theconversation.com/nzs-key-…

"The hypervigilance of a boy living with domestic violence scanning his home for any sign of threat is very adaptive; in a classroom, this can prevent the child from paying attention to the teacher and result in the child being labeled with ADHD, which is maladaptive." @BDPerry
