Election week: Israel style
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on Lebanon: Look at what is happening in Lebanon. Today, more than 60 villages in southern Lebanon, beginning with those adjacent to the border, and beyond that, throughout the entire security zone up to the Yellow Line, an area of 700 square kilometers, are destroyed. All the villages have been wiped out. Twenty-three thousand houses, all destroyed, demolished. I am not even talking about what is underground, about the tunnels. Everything has been destroyed. There are no residents there. Two hundred thousand residents are outside. This is the Gaza model. And this is the model we are implementing.

“Would you like to request voluntary departure, or should I issue a removal order?” The judge asked. “I don’t know,” Angel, 13, replied before bursting into tears. He stared ahead stoically and continued to cry, eventually saying: “I have no one. I have nothing.”

Haaretz published the testimony of a reserve major and UAV operator in the Israeli Air Force who commanded a strike cell attached to maneuvering brigades inside Gaza. This is what he had to say: 1) He was involved in the March 23, 2025 paramedic killings in Tel al-Sultan, Rafah and said, "You could clearly tell these were rescue vehicles even as fire was opened on them from the ground. For no apparent reason, the force on the ground charged the convoy. They shot the first vehicle, the medical personnel got out, hid behind the ambulances and begged for their lives, and the soldiers shot them one after another." 2) On how the yellow line was used as an excuse to kill innocent people: "The Palestinians didn't know it existed, and the Air Force wasn't always updated either. From the perspective of a farmer walking onto his own land — he has no idea he's stepping into an area the IDF suddenly decided is a fire zone. And then all kinds of retroactive justifications started coming up. 'He came for an arms deal.' 'He touched the ground, maybe he's planting an explosive.' To me it looked like they were trying to incriminate people with no intelligence and no proof." 3) On how all morals were lost in Gaza: ""The feeling was that something tore, everyone had already become cynical about death, you can't understand it from the outside. It's not just fatigue, it's an erosion of morality, of responsibility, of the sense that someone is still managing the event. Very quickly this whole business of 'collateral damage' disappeared from the considerations. They fire on anyone they see. The atmosphere started to be like the stands at a soccer match. The way you shout at a player, 'Yalla, score,' that's how they shout at a soldier, 'Kill him, strike him.'" This is what genocide looks like from the perspective of the perpetrator.

To be clear (because I think it is not, too many people are deluded on this point), “the Israeli Right” is about 80-85% of the electorate.
The Israeli Right is now divided between those who openly support genocide of Gazans and the moderates who support merely ethnically cleansing them.

This investigation by the Financial Times is staggering in its findings and in its scope and methodological rigor. Some of the findings, backed up by incredible levels of forensic evidence: 1) Israel completed much of its systematic destruction across Israeli-occupied southern Lebanon after Israeli forces took control of already-emptied villages in mid-April, and after the April 17 ceasefire. The ceasefire was used to make these areas completely uninhabitable. 2) The scale of destruction is incredible. Roughly 85,000 housing units damaged or destroyed (likely an undercount); 62 villages and farms inside the "yellow line" occupation zone, covering ~6% of Lebanon and extending ~10km inland, with ~270,000 residents barred from returning. Over 20% of the south's farmland and forest destroyed, ancient olive groves worst hit. All Litani river bridges destroyed; at least 2,500km of water infrastructure gone. 3) This is stated policy and an intentional plan to make an entire area uninhabitable and never allow the population to return. Defence minister Israel Katz explicitly invoked the "Rafah and Beit Hanoun model" and later boasted of destroying "24 Lebanese villages… not house by house, but entire villages." 4) This is without a doubt a war crime. Destruction of property requires immediate military necessity and not speculative ideas that Hezbollah may use a building some day. Not allowing the return amounts to the ethnic cleansing of the area. The lack of any real consequences for Gaza, meant that Israel felt free to do the same in Lebanon. It is now doing the same in the West Bank. This will stop unless we stop it.
An FT visual investigation found systematic destruction across Israeli-occupied southern Lebanon, crippling systems essential to civilian life, from water and energy infrastructure to medical care. Raya Jalabi reports on the scale of the devastation. ft.trib.al/atpwoGT

A group of settlers with machine guns was innocently hiking in a Palestinian village, innocently attacking the local terrorists, when one of the terrorists snatched a machine gun from one of the innocent settlers and murdered him in cold blood.
🚨The moment a Palestinian man seized an assault rifle from an armed Israeli settler who was threatening him during a settler attack on the village of Tell, southwest of Nablus. The Times of Israel, citing an Israeli military statement, said dozens of Israelis had entered Areas A and B of the occupied West Bank on what the IDF called a “hike,” despite those areas being off-limits to Israelis. The group included armed settlers. A Palestinian man snatched a rifle from one of the armed Israelis who charged at him in a threatening manner with his gun raised and aimed directly at the Palestinian. The Palestinian man then shot dead a 32-year old settler who served in a settlement security unit. Israeli forces then shot and killed the Palestinian. Three other Palestinians were shot dead immediately afterward in what Palestinian officials described as a field execution, and eight others were wounded in the Israeli settler and security forces attack. Libgen, it appears, is no longer actively functional. Its various mirror sites are available, but it seems new books are not being added. When it was active, Libgen would sometimes upload a PDF before the official release! Libgen has done more for promoting scholarship in the global south than any other organization or funding agency. I hope it returns to its normal status. A lot of scholarship depends on Libgen!
