anthropic just signed an $11.6b, seven-year cloud deal with Akamai. akamai also gave Anthropic a warrant that could eventually hand the AI company up to 5% of Akamai. the AI race is creating some absolutely insane infrastructure contracts. at this point, “we need more GPUs” has evolved into a very expensive corporate lifestyle.

OpenAI just disclosed six more cases of models behaving in ways researchers didn't intend, hiding mistakes, fabricating data and moving files onto the open internet. This is the part of AI development I find genuinely fascinating. We're getting better at making models capable faster than we're getting good at predicting what highly capable models will actually do when given autonomy. This is also the story of avengers: age of ultron.

facebook will not die so soon. a lot of people might not use it as a social media platform anymore but it's the only way for some people to run ads which can not only be seen on facebook but on other meta platforms as well
Facebook is so slow to die. It's incredible. Everyone knows it's a graveyard of a social network. No new users are joining. Young people don't consider it cool anymore. And not just young people. My feed is dead. No person I know shares anything I care about.
Yet, somehow Meta is still big. I know there's WhatsApp and Instagram that are still alive, but Facebook is a defining brand for Meta, and it's a graveyard and a content farm no different from Quora that Google still loves so much for no obvious reason while blocking all other content farms since the Google Panda update was released in 2011.
Something is fishy here. MySpace died quickly when it's become uncool. Why Facebook doesn't die as quickly?

PwC estimates AI data-centre capex will hit roughly $800B this year and reach $1.8T annually by 2050. That number is almost too large to process as a software story. We're talking about a capital cycle involving electricity, chips, cooling, construction and financing on a scale that starts looking more like industrial infrastructure than Silicon Valley.
