🚨BREAKING: If you're in the sports card / resale world, you should probably pay attention to what just happened in the last 24 hours.
Whatnot just announced a MASSIVE $545 MILLION funding round. (link below)
At basically the exact same time, eBay announced that eBay Live GMV is up roughly 8X year-over-year.
Two companies at completely different stages of business.
Both throwing massive amounts of gasoline on LIVE COMMERCE.
And some of these numbers are kind of crazy...
Whatnot says:
💡Sellers have already sold MORE halfway through 2026 than they did in ALL of 2025.
💡650,000+ people are joining Whatnot every WEEK.
💡The number of sellers who have crossed $1M in lifetime sales has more than doubled over the last year.
Meanwhile eBay says:
🕯️eBay Live GMV is roughly 8X last year.
🕯️90%+ of sellers who stream regularly have grown their GMV.
🕯️Sellers using Live sell about 3X more than sellers who don't.
🕯️New collectibles buyers using Live are spending roughly 70% more.
Here's what I think this actually means...
Live selling isn't an experiment anymore. I know many folks who keep thinking this "fad" will fade. It's not happening.
We're watching these companies fight for what they believe will be a massive piece of how people buy stuff online. They are literally pouring everything they have into this!
Whatnot is raising $545M to acquire buyers, expand markets/categories and build better seller tools.
eBay is opening Live to more sellers, expanding internationally and putting Live deeper into the normal eBay buying experience.
And I think THAT is probably the most important part.
- You don't have to love Whatnot.
- You don't have to love eBay Live.
- You don't even have to enjoy selling live.
But if you're a reseller and you're completely dismissing live commerce because you think it's some fad that eventually disappears... I've got some bad news. You're missing a massive opportunity.
I've mentioned this in many videos, but Live Selling provides something that people desperately want... COMMUNITY. Underneath all of the pizzaz and fast-paced commerce, I truly believe it's the interaction and community that make live selling so unique.
So, don't dismiss this any longer. If you're a reseller you HAVE to figure out where Live Selling fits in your long-term strategy. Build your community!
