I tell stories, drink tea, read ancient literature, and celebrate the Oxford comma. 'A beastly American.' — C.S. Lewis, probably. Married to a 🇨🇦.

Stoked and honored to present my paper "The Virginal and the Voluptuous: Lunar Imagery in Till We Have Faces" at the Undiscovered C.S. Lewis Conference in September!

Also very thoughtful for the moon to make an appearance tonight.
I presented a paper on Till We Have Faces and Andrew Lazo praised it, so there's my month made.

Nothing makes me feel more patriotic than when I return to the States and find seat covers in every public restroom.

Writing is fun. You endure hours of excruciating pain and self-doubt. But in the end, you’ve created something. And then you get to hate that thing.

Hear to tell everyone @HannahWardEdu 's reading curriculum is the thing that made reading enjoyable for my dyslexic daughter and for myself.

I encourage using words like “whence” and “forthwith” in everyday life, not to sound pretentious but because language is fun and it adds a touch of surrealism and whimsy to the other person’s day. How dull life would be if everyone felt pressured to speak in the same basic way.
Just used the word ‘henceforth’ in a casual text to a friend. I support using more unusual words in daily texts about our happenstances. Spice things up, surprise me

People hit me with this argument all the time ("we need kids like yours in the schools, we need teachers like you in the schools") and it drives me up the wall because if anyone really cared they would start/participate in community co-reading initiatives in the public schools and family literacy campaigns that would actually move the needle instead of sending in CHILDREN as FUNDING MAGNETS that continues to do nothing. I'm sorry, my precious children are not to be used as bait on a hook for public funding to go to a particular educational facility as their purpose in life for 6+ hours a day, Margo. I thought about it for three seconds and I think they have a higher calling than that.
You may think “sacrificing my child for the good of public school” is a wild fringe belief but it’s not as fringe as it should be. Homeschool mom I know got challenged by friends who said, “how can Christians abandon children in public school?”

Thoughtful of him, really. Our toaster doesn't have a breadcrumb tray. If you're in the market for a toaster, get one with a breadcrumb tray. Now I have to figure out how to clean my toaster post-mouse.

We watched a young couple pretend to have food to lure ducks closer. After a while the guy wandered off, and the girl called after him, "I'm trying to bring home a duck and you're not helping!" My husband looked at me knowingly.
