We are excited to release OpenVM 2.1 Preview, an early look at the performance of the next version of OpenVM. It adds 64-bit RISC-V support, adopts a redesigned execution, and now proves mainnet Ethereum blocks in real time on only 4 5090 GPUs, a 2x improvement over OpenVM 2.0.

5/ The performance gains come from a redesigned execution based on recompilation. OpenVM now lifts the guest binary into portable C and compiles it into a native binary. On an Ethereum block, this runs 34x faster than a fast interpreter and has only 3x overhead compared to host.

We are announcing OpenVM 2.0.0, the first production release of OpenVM 2.0. This release is externally audited with expanded formal verification and proves Ethereum mainnet in real time on as few as 8 GPUs. Proving times are down 95x since the first release 18 months ago.

6/ On a smaller cluster of only 8 5090 GPUs, OpenVM 2.0 now proves Ethereum in real time, with an average proving time of 5.4s and a p99 time of 9.8s. Lower hardware requirements for proving drive greater decentralization and scalability for the chain.

We are excited to release OpenVM 2.0 Beta, which features substantial performance gains over the OpenVM 2.0 Alpha release in January. OpenVM 2.0 now proves mainnet Ethereum blocks in a p99 time of 7.9s on 16 5090 GPUs and has 964 MHz RISC-V throughput on 64 GPUs.

6/ On Ethereum mainnet block 21,000,000, proving time has dropped to 3.5s, continuing a trend of 25% month-over-month reduction throughout the 15 months since the v0.1 release of OpenVM.
