We are excited to announce OpenVM 2.0 and the SWIRL proof system.
On 16 5090 GPUs, OpenVM 2.0 proves Ethereum mainnet blocks in real time at a p99 level and reaches 139 MHz on general RISC-V workloads. It supports 100 bits of provable security and < 300 kB proofs.

1/ OpenVM 2.0 is powered by SWIRL, a new multilinear proof system with provable post-quantum security and no trusted setup. SWIRL stacks multilinear polynomials with sumcheck and uses the WHIR polynomial commitment scheme.

2/ We are also introducing a new blazing fast recursion for SWIRL enabled by cheap verification of WHIR. This uses Write-Once Memory (WOM) to preserve the performance of fixed circuits while aggregating a dynamic number of proofs.

3/ On execution, OpenVM 2.0 introduces a new Ahead of Time (AOT) compiler-based approach that runs RISC-V assembly at a near-native 3.8 GHz by translating it to x86 assembly. On benchmarks, this leads to substantial improvements over an optimized interpreter.

4/ When evaluated on 1000 mainnet blocks starting from block 24,000,000, OpenVM 2.0 achieves:
* P99 proving time: 11.8s
* Average proving time: 6.7s
* Proof size: 298 kB
with 100 bits of provable security on a cluster of 16 5090 GPUs. This officially meets the L1 zkEVM performance targets set by the Ethereum Foundation.

5/ On the industry standard CoreMark benchmark for embedded CPUs, OpenVM 2.0 scales from proving speeds of 11.4 MHz on a single 5090 GPU to 139 MHz on 16 5090 GPUs, reaching speeds near those of physical processors.
