You Can See Everything, while completely unremarkable in every way (it’s reality television), did supply me with an opportunity to lean over to my friend and whisper “this is why I left California” when, two hours into the drably staged, monotone Kabuki of fake autism (actually substance abuse and narcissism, but the most boring varieties of both), the monotone, fake-autistic Nathan Fielder marvels at the monotone, fake-autistic Elizabeth Holmes’ feigned inability to understand a simple joke, something I personally had to endure hundreds of times when dealing with this (exceedingly common) strain of Cali-poisoned “savant” whose entire pathology is that they’re just not very bright. A nice little blip of insight wrested from three hours of ketamine-assisted woolgathering I wish I never got involved with in the first place.

As an 18-year-old this passage from C.S. Lewis completely blew up my agnosticism. I remember exactly where I was when I read it for the first time.

Just watched a video of a grown woman saying “Like so many of us I grew up watching The Price is Right with Drew Cary” and my bones turned to ash and blew away.

My worst nightmare: trying to watch a film in the theater surrounded by Rick and Morty characters.
You Can See Everything worst theater-going experience of my life. Walked out after 45 minutes. 400 grovelers clapping like seals wouldn’t shut the fuck up. Felt like what I imagine one of those midnight screenings of The Room must be like. More like You Can’t Hear Anything!!

You Can See Everything will be one of the defining films of the decade. A spellbinding treatise that questions the relationship between truth and perspective in the documentary form. Completely mind-blowing

Don't be fooled by the hype. This is THREE HOURS of turgid, lugubrious shots of unpleasant, unattractive, clinically depressed rich people ineptly manipulating each another. Possibly the most boring movie I've ever seen. Much left unexplained but who cares, the stakes are so low.
‘YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING’ debuts with $15M in its opening weekend domestically. The documentary was released in just 855 screens.

It’s like avengers for people who think they’re really smart for watching movies
I gotta say, I am shocked at the rabid response to You Can See Everything. It’s a three-hour documentary and almost all the screenings near me have been sold out this weekend.

If there's one thing women love it's when you show them "one of the most famous comedy routines of all time" and interrogate them on whether or not they understand why it's funny

This was my biggest problem with the film viewing. There were several funny moments during the film but the audience decided to laugh at everything which became very grating – especially during serious scenes
sitting down in the theater for You Can See Everything: oh, there’s a lot of people here who have good taste fifteen minutes into the movie, everyone is laughing when nothing funny is happening. nobody in this theater has good taste

real stroke of genius to make the audience complicit for buying a ticket to You Can See Everything. i got so pissed off at the thought of putting money in that man's pocket.

I disagree that nothing funny was happening but I have to say, hearing a whole theater of people laughing at the silent awkward moments of this film really pulls you out of the experience. So many moments are funny but you need to feel the silence and only really hear yourself laugh.

Everything surrounding this doc is abysmally corny.
Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim reveal they used a seven-person crew and cameras covering the “whole house” to secretly film their Elizabeth Holmes documentary, “You Can See Everything.” “We had three cameras, two operators, one would be sometimes on Elizabeth or Billy, one would be on Nathan, and we basically pick zones of the house and have these extremely long zoom lenses. Then I would be hidden behind the wide camera. We were trying to do that in an effort to try and take all the pressure away from any moment. We would be shooting like 16 hours a day, so they wouldn’t really know what we were interested in necessarily," Oppenheim explained. “We didn’t always know either,” Fielder joked. “We started setting up the cameras where we had a wide lens that would cover the whole house, so if something happened, we wouldn’t miss it... If we were live and then something interesting started happening, [David Bolen] could pick up the camera and tripod, move to a new spot, re-lock the head in 10 seconds. It looks amazing, and it’s a testament to the team who put this together." wp.me/pc8uak-1lHSSR

Not to be a bummer but it is pretty depressing how much Americans love infotainment docudrama comedy stuff...
‘YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING’ is the highest-rated feature film of all time on Letterboxd at 4.8.
