The man who led Serco when it won asylum-accommodation contracts estimated at £1.9 BILLION now sits on the board of the Home Office, the department that awarded them. Rupert Soames was Serco CEO from May 2014 to December 2022. In 2019, Serco won two ten-year asylum accommodation and support contracts covering the North West and Midlands & East of England. Soames described them as “the largest contracts by value ever awarded to Serco”. In June 2026, he joined the Home Office. It now lists him as its LEAD non-executive director. The department says its board steers and scrutinises its strategy, performance and capability. Serco remains an asylum-accommodation contractor. The former contractor chief now helps scrutinise the customer. How is the Home Office managing any potential conflicts of interest on Serco-related matters? Is he excluded from those discussions? £1.9bn was Serco’s original estimated ten-year contract value, not money already spent.

Completely untrue. There was nothing there about NATO enlargement. So, Russia obviously did not agree to it. This is what it did say: "Proceeding from the principle that the security of all states in the Euro-Atlantic community is indivisible, NATO and Russia will work together to contribute to the establishment in Europe of common and comprehensive security based on the allegiance to shared values, commitments and norms of behaviour in the interests of all states." NATO never even remotely sought to fulfill that pledge, rushing at breakneck speed to scoop up all of Russia's former military allies into a military alliance that was clearly directed against Russia.
