You should focus your time/your child's time on improving at the sport you're playing. If you're good enough, the coaches find you. If you go to a small school and ball out for 1-2 years, the portal finds you. I've seen this happen a lot in my decade of covering prep sports.
Rivals is charging high school athletes and parents $499 for an 'evaluation' by a Rivals scout. The fee includes a scouting report, grade, film evaluation, coach interview, and consideration to be ranked on their site.

Paying $499 to be "ranked" in what's already an insanely impossible ranking system? Don't do that. If you're going to spend that money, spend it on private coaching/S&C training, etc.
