How banks collaborate to try to kill stablecoins ...
DBS, OCBC and UOB just did Singapore's first live SGD interbank payments in tokenised deposits โ on Swift's blockchain ledger, matched & netted with FINAL settlement still on existing systems
@FinTech_Futures ... a new rail, or the old one wearing a ledger?
> we predicted Sep 9 (after DBSรCiti's weekend USD tx) the Swift ledger would add another live corridor before Sibos (Sep 28). Today it added a whole new currency (domestic SGD) + 2 more banks. Call advancing.
> 3rd live use of the July 17-bank ledger: HSBC/StanChart -> DBS/Citi USD -> now DBS/OCBC/UOB SGD. UOB says it went HKD -> SGD -> USD, currencies added one by one.
> architecture unchanged: Swift ORCHESTRATES across each bank's SEPARATE tokenised-deposit system; obligations netted, finality stays OFF-ledger. Tokenised deposits stay bank liabilities inside the perimeter. Our Aug-24 read, now 3x live.
> the tell is the currency: SG already has instant PayNow/FAST for SGD โ so domestic tokenised SGD isn't about speed, it's 24/7 + programmability + denying the use-case to an SGD STABLECOIN (StraitsX XSGD, and whatever MAS's Sep-1 PS Act rules license).
> local (courtlistener): OCBC/UOB/DBS โ no US dockets tied to digital-asset business (OCBC's only hit a closed 2012 forfeiture; UOB's are 1980s-90s, closed). Clean. Citi (C) steady ~$136, no unusual move. bullist bank stonks?
> likely >> SG's 3 local banks + DBS's seat on Swift's 12-bank design group = the SGD leg of a bank-owned, Swift-orchestrated settlement web built in parallel to the 21-bank USD stablecoin JV โ same Libra/Diem immune response: copy the stablecoin UX on insured deposits, route it through the incumbent messaging monopoly, and the standalone SGD stablecoin never gets its opening.
> next >> by Sibos (Sep 28-Oct 1) or ~Feb 2027 the ledger names a 4th+ currency/corridor OR an atomic cross-currency (PvP) tx โ while STILL reporting no ON-ledger final settlement; and MAS's finalized PS Act rules put bank tokenised-deposits and licensed SGD stablecoins in explicit competition. If any of the 17 banks reports on-ledger finality, "orchestration not settlement" breaks.
