Engineering virus-like particles for RNA delivery means a lot of DNA to verify. Forrest Bowling, a scientist at VLP Therapeutics, modifies both the RNA payload and the virus-like particle structure as part of his cancer research. With so many constructs to check, he uses Plasmidsaurus Whole Plasmid Sequencing to get comprehensive coverage without the hassle of designing sequencing primers. As Forrest says, “So cheap, why not give it a try?” Try now at: plasmidsaurus.com/plasmids?u… Hear from Forrest himself:

Corals are surprisingly social for organisms that don’t go anywhere. They depend on symbiotic algae for energy and host diverse communities of bacteria involved in processes like nutrient cycling and coral health. Genevieve, a PhD student in the Reich Lab, is looking at the interactions between coral, their symbiotic algae, and the bacteria living alongside them. With Plasmidsaurus sequencing, she’s assembling genomes from bacteria isolated from coral-associated algae and annotating their genes to investigate which functions may be important to the coral and its algal partners. This research aims to inform reef intervention strategies while broader efforts to reduce carbon emissions continue. Watch to hear from Genevieve herself:

🦠 What if we could make bacterial biofilms easier to break? A new study published in PLOS Pathogens by Piazza et al. (2026) uncovered a previously unknown pathway that helps Pseudomonas aeruginosa build stable biofilms and survive antibiotics. The researchers identified a new biofilm regulatory protein, BatR, and found that it interacts with the stress response enzyme SrkA in a previously unknown signaling network. Plasmidsaurus Whole Genome Sequencing of P. aeruginosa escape mutants provided clues about how bacteriophage Pf4 contributes to cell death and eDNA release in mature biofilms. Swipe through to explore what these findings could mean for understanding biofilms and making chronic infections more vulnerable to treatment. A published analysis of 9,395 public RNA-Seq samples across 884 projects found mycoplasma contamination in 11% of samples. That’s not a small number, and it’s easy to miss. Mycoplasma can affect cell growth, metabolism, and gene expression without obvious changes in culture appearance. Starting now, every Plasmidsaurus RNA-Seq result includes mycoplasma screening at no additional cost. Identify potential contamination before it becomes a confounding variable in your analysis. 🍺 Can yeast collected from a 250-year-old tree recreate colonial-style beer? This question was explored by The Bochman Group (@BochmanLabIU, led by @Doc_Boc), who study DNA helicases and genome integrity using the model organism Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Earlier this year, they put an unusual yeast to the test: S. cerevisiae DoF1, collected from a 250-year-old oak tree. Along the way, they made a discovery about the yeast’s genome integrity and identity. Plasmidsaurus Whole Genome Sequencing revealed that their yeast isolate, S. cerevisiae DoF1, was a bona fide wild strain—not a lab strain or brewery contaminant. Swipe through to see what unusual yeasts might teach us about evolution, ecology, and fermentation biology.

“We knew what we had to do. We just couldn’t do it fast enough.” — Nikolas Balanis, CTO of Syntax Bio For cell engineering teams, rapid iteration depends on fast access to high-quality sequence data. That’s especially true for Syntax Bio, which uses CRISPR to reprogram stem cells with the goal of bringing stem-cell-derived therapies to patients who need them. In our latest case study, Syntax Bio shares how Plasmidsaurus RNA-Seq and Whole Plasmid Sequencing fit into their workflow. Faster construct verification and transcriptome-wide readouts helped the team move efficiently from experimental design to actionable data, giving them the bandwidth to optimize designs at a scale that was previously impractical. What if antibiotic resistance could spread between bacteria inside a patient’s lungs? Published in Nature Microbiology, Karash et al. (2026) show that resistance-carrying plasmids can move between bacterial species inside patients’ lungs during chronic infections, rapidly spreading antibiotic resistance. The researchers identified plasmids carrying aminoglycoside resistance genes, including the newly identified aac(3)-IIId. Likely originating from environmental bacteria, these plasmids transferred between species and conferred resistance to tobramycin. To uncover how this was happening, the team used Plasmidsaurus Whole Genome Sequencing to resolve complete bacterial genomes and plasmids from more than 140 clinical isolates. This revealed resistance plasmids and genes that short-read sequencing had missed. Read the original paper here: nature.com/articles/s41564-0…
