I Really Hope I’m Wrong About Elon Musk And A Starlink/ Starshield in Ukraine 🇺🇦 🛰️
After reading Musk’s latest response to Mykhailo Fedorov, I’m starting to wonder whether I’ve been blaming the wrong person, or at least not looking at the whole picture.
Here’s how I understand it. Starlink is SpaceX’s commercial service, while Starshield is designed for military and government use. Both come from SpaceX, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Musk has the whole authority to decide how military Starshield systems are operated. According to Musk, those decisions belong to the U.S. military and ultimately the president Trump.
And that’s where things get interesting, but also extremely contradictory.
Knowing Musk, his history with Trump, their very public fallout, their reconciliation, Musk’s previous statements about Ukraine, and everything Trump has been saying and doing lately, I find this whole situation incredibly suspicious. Musk now seems to be pointing toward the Trump administration as the authority responsible for Starshield restrictions, but without directly accusing Trump of anything. Is he genuinely explaining how the system works, or is he carefully distancing himself from a decision he doesn’t want to take responsibility for?
I genuinely hope Musk is telling the truth. I hope he had nothing to do with these restrictions. But considering Trump’s recent pressure on Ukraine, his criticism of Ukrainian strikes against Russian oil infrastructure, and Musk’s own criticism of Zelenskyy, it’s difficult to believe the timing is just a fucking coincidence.
And there’s another contradiction I cannot ignore. Some of Trump’s closest supporters claim to stand with Ukraine and oppose Russia, yet somehow they remain remarkably quiet whenever Trump’s own actions appear to undermine Ukraine’s defense. How exactly does that work?
I don’t know who ultimately ordered these restrictions, and I’m not pretending that I do. But I know enough about the political behavior of the people involved to question their explanations.
I want to be wrong about Musk. I really do. But wanting to believe someone and having good reasons to trust them are two completely different things.
And while we’re trying to figure out who is responsible, Ukrainian lives are at stake. Russia invaded Ukraine, Ukraine is defending itself, and political games involving its military communications are the last fucking thing Ukrainians need.
