85% of DSA's work is actually, believe it or not, nonelectoral work. The vast majority of what DSA is doing is through working groups, such as eviction defense, mutual aid, and union organizing. It's a gross mischaracterization to say local chapters are not doing these things.
DSA needs to implode. They put all their eggs into electoralism, and it's (as predicted) poisoning working people against socialism. It needs to implode.

Totally agree and points to how labor organizing is still one of best ways for left radicals to learn the skills needed to build the working class majorities that can win on the shopfloor, community and ballot box
As a labor organizer who has to organize moderates, right wingers, anarchists, Latinos, Chinese, Filipinos, Ethiopians and everyone in between, I see a lot of people across the spectrum of politics and ethnic backgrounds moving in our direction due to Zohran and Abdul.
This is in San Francisco- Nancy Pelosi’s district- where establishment politics rules, but people are starting to question why our candidates accept corporate money and wish to have lefty candidates here. Currently our choices are Connie Chan- (endorsed by Pelosi) & Scott Weiner (pro Israel).
Ideology is not the right way to move people. We have to meet workers where they’re at. To stop the am shift and pm shift blaming each other for workload, to stop immigrants and black workers from fighting each other, I connect their material conditions, the increasing cost of healthcare, the stress they carry, their aching bodies, to their employer’s greed. I connect their employer’s greed to them buying politicians. I connect the bought off politicians to high rents, I connect high rents to homelessness & drug use. I connect that to safety. I connect the $8.50 cents it takes to cross the bay bridge to go to work, the $7 a gallon for gas, the expensive groceries, to feckless, lying, war mongering, corrupt, corporate politicians.
This is a pipeline I have to utilize to educate them politically. It’s not a straight line. They all come from various backgrounds carrying different colonial histories. I can’t ask them to read Karl Marx or Fanon to get them there. I have to show them over time, from one bargaining campaign, to the next election, to the next contract campaign that they have power and that they have to fight.
So while we see Abdul campaigning with Kamala as a defeat for us, it’s actually having a normalization affect on the wider normie population that tends to be averse to new ideas and types of politicians but are opening their minds because the message resonates due to their material conditions.
Everyone would rather have better healthcare than fund a genocide. And it’s going to take a lot to get that done but we do have to recognize where people are at and be okay going from a corporate Democrat to anti establishment Democrat, to socialism to communism.
The hardest lesson I’ve had to learn in life, much to my chagrin as an adhd Aries organizer is that change takes time.

As I’ve said before, the simplest way to making teaching a more desirable job and improve schools would be to make teachers hourly employees like cops. All of a sudden, districts would drop unnecessary meetings and trainings in favor of teaching, planning, and grading.
So many teachers keep bringing up this “unpaid labor” point. You all sound like you’re retail workers waiting to clock out.

I don’t know. Have you considered that perhaps Michael Bloomberg, the Walton heirs, and Betsy DeVos just care more about kids than the actual people dedicating their lives to teaching them? That’s what Rahm Emanuel, Jon Chait, Matt Yglesias, and others have assured me.
I'm not even going to get into the cognitive load of teaching or how tiring the job is before you take any of the paperwork or administrative aspects of it into account. Like maybe there is a reason most people quit within three years of starting in the profession
