Sharon (@nkatha_kk) is a developer based in Nairobi 🇰🇪, and an alumna of @DadaDevs and @btrust_builders. She completed the 2026 BOSS Challenge, where she made her first major Bitcoin open-source contribution. Her grant-funded work focuses on @braidpool's mining infrastructure: strengthening Stratum V1 reliability, addressing gaps in protocol implementation, and improving scalability. This work helps connect existing mining ⛏️ equipment with decentralized pool software. Nkatha also helps lead discussions at @BitDevsNBO meetups, supporting learning and knowledge-sharing within the local developer community.

We’re excited to announce the Q3 2026 Btrust developer grant recipients. 🚀 Ten Bitcoin open-source developers are receiving support: five starter grant recipients and five long-term open-source cohort members. This quarter also marks an important first: Btrust developer grants are going directly to developers outside Africa. Through our recent expansion of long-term grants across the Global Majority, we’re now supporting developers in Brazil 🇧🇷 and India 🇮🇳. DAY 1 OF HACK4FREEDOM NBO 🇰🇪 And oh, Dada Devs! 😮‍💨🔥 The turnout. The energy. The talent. UNMATCHED. Day 1 made one thing very clear: skills and talent aren’t the missing gap. The room is. We kicked things off with @briimhd Founder of @hack4_freedom , who took the ladies through why this work matters and why creating more opportunities for builders is critical. Our Founder, @marcelorraine , challenged the room to think beyond simply being consumers of technology. Her message? Build from Africa. Africa doesn’t just need more people using technology. We need more people building it. She encouraged the participants to explore what they can create using open-source protocols like Bitcoin, Lightning, Nostr and eCash and to see themselves not just as participants in the ecosystem, but as builders shaping what comes next. A session that had the room reflecting on why they showed up and what they’re capable of building.. 🧵

In Winteko village, Burundi, when the internet goes down, people keep paying each other in Bitcoin. Offline, using @CashuBTC ecash. A young learner once bought candy for four sats with no connection. That's @btcshule, a circular economy where 14 shops and a hotel accept Bitcoin over Lightning, merchants are mapped on @btcmap, and spending happens on camera week after week. Led by @belyi_nobel, operating in Kirundi, French, and English. On 11 September they announced the Nakamoto Hope Center, a brick-and-mortar learning hub for tech training, digital skills, and Bitcoin education. The building is nearly complete. From understanding Lightning to making it work. ⚡ Sessions 13 & 14 of Rust for Bitcoin 2.0 took participants deeper into the Lightning Network and its role within the Bitcoin ecosystem. With @200OKDeveloper, @megasley and @damola21mm guiding the sessions, participants explored key Lightning concepts and worked hands on with Polar, LNURL, and LUD-05, moving from understanding the technology to interacting with it in practice. The sessions also featured practical Lightning transactions, giving participants direct experience with sending and receiving Lightning payments and a clearer understanding of how Lightning based applications work. Two sessions of practical learning that brought participants closer to the program’s bigger goal: moving from learning Bitcoin technologies to building and contributing to the Bitcoin ecosystem. #TheBuidlGrid #RustForBitcoin
