making and posting an artwork a day

gm! Now to find a way of drawing the Z-axis information in my study of Bob Mallary’s ‘Shape3D’ works. Away from my computer for the weekend, and with only a book of graph paper to play in, oblique projection is looking promising.
gm all! Encouraged by @marka_eth, I've begun a more careful reconstruction in Blender of Bob Mallary's Shape 104 (1972). Using Marka's post (see quoted post), my first task has been to analyze the 2D grid: red for gaps, blue for faces parallel to the XY plane, yellow for slopes.

ever since i first learned about Bob Mallary's Shape collection from the early 70's i've wanted to replicate it with code annoyingly, outlines are tricky in three.js so i was never happy with the results so today i tried with it p5.js and volia!

gm! My first little step in Python-based generative artmaking. Here's a frame from the iteration generated with seed 2. Inspired by Bob Mallary's 1960's Shape project!

gm! Today's work once again takes its inspiration from Bob Mallary's early, pioneering experiments with generative artmaking. No better place for me to start my own computer-based artmaking education than at its foundations.

I forgot to say that today’s experiment directly references Bob Mallary‘s generative art making. Mallory was a C20th forerunner of computer-generated art. See @schmrypto for more info
gm all What a relief to finally be back in Blender. For the next while, I’ll post my daily experiments as a beginner learning Blender (and DaVinci Resolve too). Within a couple of years, I aim to make much more ambitious artworks with them! x

gm all! Sorry for the radio silence! I’m determined to set up my digital art making tools properly, and it’s taking much longer than I anticipated. I’ll post an artwork a day as usual, but won’t have time to communicate beyond that for the moment. My apologies!

gm all! Today’s artwork is meant to express what my brain feels like after a full day in Linux’s terminal, trying to get Resolve to work for the first time

gm Having fun with the outputs of some recent twinkle tests in Blender (and learning how to composite with nodes). More systematic testing ahead to fine-tune the Twinkle Machines.

gm all I'm taking small, extremely thorough steps as I learn Blender. Here is my most recent twinkle test. It explores how to produce twinkles without moving any of the scene's components. I still can't do that yet, but each test gets me closer.

gm A new twinkle test. I'm slowly learning how to control the effect (read: elaborate set-up).

gm A watercolour today to take a break from sorting and labelling the billions of cables I’ve accumulated over the years.

A physical today because it’s taking me so long to get even the simple result that I want in Blender at the moment. (Nodes. A steep learning curve!)

The next little twinkle experiment. (And I’m wondering: what’s the difference between a twinkle and a shimmer?)
