This bill creates a Fleet Conversion Task Force to study turning fleets into “zero-emission vehicles.” Can anyone explain to me what Zero Emission means? Zero-emission, in this room, means no exhaust out the tailpipe. That is all it means. It does not mean the truck was mined, built, shipped, charged, and scrapped with no emissions. Electricity is not emission-free. A battery is not emission-free. Lithium, nickel, and cobalt come out of the ground. Factories run on power. Charging the devices uses the grid, so Calling the whole vehicle zero-emission is marketing. Writing it into statute is stupid And if the plan is to charge those batteries with solar, stop pretending that is clean either. A spent nuclear fuel assembly is small, tracked, and locked in engineered storage. Dead solar panels are bulky e-waste. They contain lead solder, and some thin-film panels contain cadmium. Recycling often costs more than landfilling, so most U.S. panels still go in the ground or get shipped out. Per unit of electricity, solar leaves far more mass to dispose of than nuclear. You cannot tax us to electrify fleets and then wave away the pile of glass and heavy metals you create to charge them. California already ran this. Advanced Clean Fleets. Quotas. Then delays, exemptions, trucks two to four times the price of diesel, batteries that steal payload, chargers that weren’t ready. They repealed the private-fleet pieces after the collision with reality. Do not study New Jersey into the same ditch. As I always ask with every bill, does this make us more affordable? It doesn’t. You already tack millions onto our electric bills through the Societal Benefits Charge and that over the years push "green" crap programs like charging stations, wind farms, clean equity,. Hundreds of millions a year, whether we asked for it or not Hell our electric bills have gone through the roof ever since Dems here championer the closure of power plants all in the name of climate change But I'm sure this task force will pretend electrifying commercial fleets won’t raise demand and rates. You do not know what’s best for a plow, a packer truck, or a small fleet that cannot sit on a charger for hours all for a full court push against gas cars. Just remember, the people want choice, not a mandate. Vote no on S685. Don’t sell a tailpipe slogan as zero. Don’t put it on our bills, we the people of NJ have suffered enough with the green push in this state
