Yesterday's reporting was bizarre. The true face of the Free Speech Union is this. Ed Sheeran, a 400 million-dollar worth celebrity, who cancelled his friend following the instructions of even richer stadium owners who asked for this cancellation, somehow ends up being the one who is cancelled! It is time for the Free Speech Union to stop pretending being pro-free speech, change its name to, I don't know, the St George's Free Speech Brigade, and embrace its true self.

The whole Macklemore–Palestine episode has thrown Ed Sheeran’s tour into chaos. It has raised serious questions. To what extent should venue owners and concert promoters be able to dictate what an artist can or cannot say on stage? We should also be alarmed that Ed Sheeran is being “cancelled” because he has not publicly expressed the ‘correct’ opinions strongly enough. As Ed Sheeran said: “I have my own personal views on this devastating conflict. Just because I choose not to speak publicly, it doesn’t mean I don’t have them.” Yet, because he does not choose to air those views publicly, the cancel-culture mob are after him. Now, ClassicHits Radio station in Ireland has refused to play Ed’s music for the foreseeable.

What terrifies me is if it turns out Jason Arday’s DEI qualifications were fake, his DEI chair was fake, his DEI discipline was fake, and his faculty + college were DEI bootcamps. Imagine the backlash against hardworking DEI hires?
