Notice his ankle dorsiflexion rebound off leg. He was going for the ball between the legs. Yes should’ve maybe not tried but no risk no reward. Give it a break it wasn’t intentional. If it was intentional you’d see Messi’s leg drive down into the opponent’s leg.
