A fortune teller in my dream guessed my mother's maiden name wrong Like you're running on my shared wetware, clearly the dream-software knows the correct answer, and you still guessed wrong?!?! how does that happen. I'm going to have a very stern seance with Jung's ghost

The Persian boy came over and played disc with our dog, and then we gave him a few rocks. (We have rock enthusiast friend who gives us extras... They sit in a bowl in our front yard.) I was so excited to be "up" in gifts with this family! They're such ferocious gifters and I feel absolutely behind. An hour late the Persian father comes over with two big bags of homegrown apples & pears! Wonderful and I'm going to have to announce gift bankruptcy

The last time we heard about an autist at a zoo, the autist dropped a child into an alligator enclosure. Maybe autists shouldn't be allowed in zoos. At least as guests.
Apparently, the man mauled to death by a tiger in England was deaf and severely autistic and had allegedly been left unattended by his carer. Authorities reportedly fired warning shots rather than shooting the tiger and made no attempts to kill the animal to save the man. I feel sick to my stomach. What an unimaginably horrific way to die, especially for someone who wasn’t even able to fully understand what was happening, just felt pain and violence he couldn’t fathom :(
Community note
The man has not been publicly identified with no official confirmation of deafness, autism or a carer; witnesses report he spoke and asked strangers for photos with the tiger. Staff used acoustic deterrents and the tiger was unharmed and will not be euthanized. dailymail.com/news/article-1… bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n

Who'd win in a fight, 100 duck-sized Haiku55s or 1 horse-sized Opus55?
Introducing Claude Haiku 5.5: the cheapest, fastest, and most capable small model we’ve ever released. On average, it costs around 75% less to run than Claude Haiku 4.5.

In Pinker's defense, his books are just dumb collections of factoids to share at cocktail parties, he didn't think anyone was taking them seriously.
this is absolutely brutal

Look I'm pretty negative on AI but this just isn't a great argument. Language is the thing that marks us as rational creatures distinct from lower animals, whereas we share sensory experience even with insects. This is far too facile a dismissal of the problem.
Language is not fundamental to human consciousness. In terms of evolution, it arrived only recently on our timeline. Consciousness evolved over millions of years through sensory awareness, emotion, and the embodied survival instincts of our tribal past; our capacity for empathic engagement and community. Syntactic language only emerged around 100,000 years ago. This is exactly why Large Language Models (LLMs - so called AI) are the wrong pathway to true artificial consciousness. They try to replicate the late-stage "output layer" of human intelligence without building the foundational, embodied awareness that actually generates it. Statistical text prediction is a mirror of thought, not the spine, the guts, the nerves and the subconscious, empathic ability to connect with other living beings. LLMs can never feel, let alone think. We have been sold a trick, not a pathway to superintelligence. LLMs are fraudulent. Their capabilities have already peaked and we are being sold lies about their future potential. Lies with the goal of companies reaching IPO and tricking investors out of hundreds of billion$.
