I can't get over this one. He let his own K9 partner starve to death and got 15 days for it.
Dunklin County, Missouri. Dexter Police K9 handler Derrick Durall stopped feeding and watering his active K9, Apollo, and his retired K9, Knox, between September 2023 and February 2024. Apollo was found dead in his kennel, down 25 pounds, sunken eyes, muscle wasted from malnutrition. Knox survived but lost 10 pounds, developed severe heartworms, and was described as generally unkept.
Durall pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts. He got a suspended one-year sentence, two years probation, 15 days actually served, and $8,900 restitution.
Fifteen days for starving one dog to death and letting another rot beside him. He was fired in 2024. Fifteen days is what came after.
