Lesson learned. Never hiring for something this important through Twitter replies like this again.
Hired someone from the replies who assured me they could handle the project and meet the deadline. I paid a deposit, gave extremely clear direction, references, deliverables and asked to be kept updated throughout the process so we could make adjustments in real time.
Deadline came and went. What I initially received was nowhere near the direction we discussed and only 1 out of several deliverables asked for. Gave another opportunity to get it right, extended the timeline, and unfortunately we’re now delaying our second team meeting because the work still isn’t complete and have zero communication with the designer.
Not naming or attacking anybody. That’s not the point of this post. This one’s on me for how I hired.
I need a better system going forward for finding, vetting and managing professional creatives for important projects.
You live and you learn.

Some time ago, a lady messaged me on twitter/X
She told me she had just lost her $60,000+ earned account and didn’t know what she did wrong
I told her to check the suspension email she got; she would get the reason there and know her next steps
Nothing was there; it was just: “This suspension is permanent and irreversible…”
In my pressing, we realized she bought reviews when she was a newbie on the platform
This was years ago (so long she had even forgotten about it)
We realized that was the reason
And she wasn’t alone
She wasn’t even the first person to come to me with that issue
I once had a review issue that got 40 students' accounts suspended
Yes, you read that right (40 students, all SUSPENDED)
All it takes is one of the linked accounts to be flagged
Every other account linked to it will be suspended
No stories
I have a lot of other stories to share, but I won’t bore you with epistles
Simple advice: Don’t TRY it
And if you had, be on a low key
We have a lot of freelancing success stories now that there’s no excuse anymore
Except the ones you give yourself
As they say, “A word is enough for …”

We’re trying to live in a society.
So. Im on a United flight. It has Starlink. I told my wife it had Starlink. She facetimed me so I could say goodnight to my son (he’s a toddler). It worked perfectly. Like crystal clear. Cabin crew IMMEDIATELY told me I couldnt be on the phone during the flight and asked me to hang up.
I said “It’s via Starlink?” - they said no sorry. I hung up, without question.
