1/🔬 R2D2-ICU Trial – Rethinking Physical Restraint Use in the ICU ?
We are pleased to share the results of the R2D2-ICU randomized clinical trial, conducted across 10 ICUs in France.
🙏 We thank all patients, families, and co-investigators involved in this study.
A restrictive (lower use) wrist-strap restraint approach did not improve #delirium-free or #coma-free days compared to liberal use in mechanically #ventilated #ICU patients.

ALT JAMA study: Low-use physical restraints in ICU patients on mechanical ventilation didn't improve coma/delirium-free days. Population: 245 males, 151 females, median age 65. Intervention: 405 patients randomized, 196 low-use, 200 high-use strategy. Findings: Low-use 6.67 days, High-use 6.30 days.

In the BALANCE randomized clinical trial, patients with bacteremia were assigned to 7 or 14 days of appropriate antimicrobial therapy, and 7 days of therapy was found to be noninferior to 14 days. Full trial results: nej.md/3Z5bTJD
