Taking the data released by @flightradar24 and applying some physical modeling - yes it's very possible that airspeed exceeded Mach 1, but it's hard to be certain because of inconsistent reporting in the data. I wrote this song after what happened yesterday aboard flydubai Flight FZ1073, travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. For me, watching those people come through something that could so easily have ended in tragedy felt like one more miracle in a story filled with them. From the parting of the sea and the walls of Jericho, through thousands of years of exile, our return to our land, the wars Israel survived, Entebbe, Iron Dome, and now this moment in the skies — I believe Adonai has been speaking to us again and again through miracles. Maybe the message is simpler than we make it: do not live in fear. Keep believing. Keep trusting. And above all, stand together. We do not all have to be religious. We do not have to pray in exactly the same way. But we are a people bound by a covenant that began thousands of years ago, and I believe that covenant still speaks to us today. From miracle to miracle, we are being reminded: there is nothing left to fear when we walk together in faith.

They didn’t offer a reason and I didn’t press for one. They asked me what I did for a living and I explained that I was a writer currently investigating how cartels were smuggling people into the US. I say I was chatting with this couple, but it was really only with her. He said nothing the entire time. But he listened intently as she asked questions. “You travel a lot? Where have you been?” “Well, so far this year, I’ve covered the WEF in Davos, researched Karl Marx in London, went to Gaza with the IDF…” “You’ve been to Israel?” She interrupted. “We’ve been there. What do you think of the war?” I guessed that here our conversation would end unhappily. They were New Yorkers, so almost certainly heavily propagandized lefties.
