Michael Burry is so COOKED His whole bear case is that NVIDIA GPUs are worthless after 3 years and hyperscalers are "faking" earnings by depreciating them over 6 The data is showing the exact opposite. NVIDIA GPU rental prices are up 30-58% this year Doesn't matter what version of NVIDIA GPU you own, they're ALL heading higher The one that should really scare Burry is the H100. It's roughly 3 years old, two generations behind the newest chips, and it's renting for ~40% MORE today than it did in January. That's the chip that was supposed to be waste by now And here's the other important part to understand: Blackwell rolled out in size this year. If newer chips made older ones obsolete, H100 prices should've collapsed when B200s and B300s hit the market. Instead they went up Think about what that does for whoever owns these chips. The GPU was already paid for yet the rental rate keeps climbing. It's pure margin expansion and the GPU rental business is becoming a better business every day! the demand for inference is keeping old GPUs printing money much longer than expected today, we're seeing cards from over 4 years ago fly off the shelves like the H100 (2022), A100 (2020), and even the T4s (2018) for example, the 4 year old H100 is still trading like an old rolex, as it's renting for over 50% of it's launch price as the number of use-cases for inference grow, there are new opportunities to repurpose cards (e.g. H100s being used for RL post-training) from a financing perspective, even if the original customer of a large GPU deal fails, there is going to be another buyer of the hardware. there are simply more credit-worthy AI companies today than there are suppliers of debt

New chips are still rising in demand. The H100 is still rented at 87.7 percent of the fleet, and the market is in no hurry to retire it.

Yesterday, West Virginia put out a report on how data centers are affecting the state. How? They're making it rich. Data centers are allowing the state to cut income taxes, fund schools, rebuild sewers and water treatment facilities, curb electrical costs, and generate jobs!

GPU residual value update: - A100 $4,956 (-12.0% YTD) - H100 $20,308 (+3.6% YTD) - B200 $71,057 (14.4% YTD) A month on, the picture has not much changed. A100 ( launched in May 2020) has been roughly flat near $5k since late 2025. H100 and B200 have in fact both appreciated as the rising GPU rental income more than offset time decay! That is not a 2–3 year scrap curve! GPU financiability has increasingly become the central question for the AI buildout: credit, not chips or power, is what stalls smaller builds. Banks still often mark GPU residual to zero after three years of straight-line depreciation. Our estimates are going-concern value or what the GPU should be worth if it keeps running. "Zero after three years" is the wrong prior for that number. A six-year-old A100 still printing ~$5k is the living proof!

I asked Astra to map out all the components of a datacenter and pick the best stock for each component. Here are the results (don’t shoot the messenger):

The H100 is a three-year-old training chip. Its rental price is up 22 percent on the month, to $3.28 an hour. Every depreciation schedule assumes a chip this old only loses value. The market is paying up for it instead.
