a win for acclimation
Somebody smarter than me help me out here. Maybe it really is this simple. The 49ers flew to Australia a week early to adjust to the time change. The Rams are flying in the night before and leaving right after. Both say they're going off the science. So are they just reading different data? Weighing different things? Coach McVay's logic is keep the routine normal. Coach Shanahan's is give the body time to adjust. Fascinating that the same science points two completely opposite directions. Since we're here, a business question too. The whole point of a game in Australia is planting NFL roots over there. If the Rams really are just in and out, no community work or time spent off-field, I'm a little surprised the league was cool with that. Seems like a missed chance to build something, especially because the Rams have the rights to Australia as one of their international territories. Anyway. Curious how others see it!

The last ATP rankings without one of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic in the top 10 were published on October 7, 2002. Ben Shelton and Zheng Qinwen were born that week. Nearly 24 years of uninterrupted Big 3 presence in the top 10, set to end on September 14, 2026.

Meet the King of String
In just three weeks at the U.S. Open, this team is expected to string and restring around 8,000 tennis rackets, making sure the tension of each one is exactly what the tennis pros need. Sometimes, that means being on their feet and working late into the night. TIME talked to a veteran racket stringer from Ukraine who has worked at the U.S. Open 21 times, stringing rackets for legends like Roger Federer and Serena Williams.

“I like to have the target on my back.” With the U.S. Open main draw beginning on Sunday, Aryna Sabalenka, the world’s top-ranked women’s tennis player, remains in prime position to fulfill her wildest aspirations: a third straight U.S. Open victory. If she wins, despite underperforming at other Grand Slams this year, she would become the first player since Serena Williams to win the tournament three times in a row and just the third woman in the modern era to do so. TIME recently asked Sabalenka who she saw as her biggest competition. Read more here: time-magazine.visitlink.me/r…

Thank you @Princeton for the “serious” quote and “goofy” picture juxtaposition
