To me, the politics of AI are starting to mirror the pandemic. The doomers think of nothing other than safety and they desire it at a level the government could never provide. The zoomers, in contrast, refuse to acknowledge any valid concerns or fears for human life.
I think there is a middle path, one that prioritizes individualism, safety, AND progress. But just as I felt during COVID, libertarians are mostly dropping the ball on this front and failing to blaze that trail.
So I spent the past month foregoing my leggings, Nespresso, and Samoyed-guarded fortress for conferences, workshops, and seminars, delving into the depths of this technology and the debate and policies swirling around it, in an effort to figure out what that trail might look like.
