A good day to remind people that the “solution” to the virus was to have government employees, rich people and tech workers stay at home while poor people delivered them food. And then, for an encore, implement a system that guts the middle class through inflation while dramatically boosting the value of assets held by…the government workers, the rich and the tech workers…

This is a 2 minute video about taxing the wealthy. There is no mention of programs it will fund. Or why the tax dollars are needed. Or what the money would be used for. Or how those less fortunate could be supported to themselves become wealthy. The benefits are no longer the point. The implicit message is about punishment. Punishing those doing well is now good politics. Sign of the times —
It's time for a national billionaires tax and a new social contract. 10% of Americans own two-thirds of the wealth. Wages have stagnated. The cost of living has skyrocketed.  The system is fundamentally broken. The federal tax code, a corporate code, and an inheritance code were written for a different set of Americans.  It’s time for an economic reset. substack.com/@gavinnewsom

Bezos had the vision, took the risk, and built Amazon from nothing. Since founding, Amazon has employed roughly 11.5 million worker-years globally, paid about $47.7 billion in disclosed cash income taxes since 2002 alone, and its U.S. workforce has likely generated another roughly $35–45 billion in federal income and payroll taxes. That’s before counting the value created for 200M+ Prime members and 300M+ active customers worldwide whose quality of life has been vastly improved by Amazon. And you, in your infinite wisdom, want to financially punish the creator of Amazon?
Jeff Bezos has $222 billion. If he paid my wealth tax this year, we could fund insulin in America for everyone who needs it plus free school lunch for every kid in Texas—and have plenty of money left over. And Bezos would still have $215 billion dollars to spare.

Nobody wants to admit to this or be honest about it but the actual price everyone paid for the utter stupidity in the covid era was that the monetary supply doubled, which means everything inflated by 100% and that is actually why you feel like you can’t afford life anymore. Stay home stay safe had a price. Now you’re paying it and you will continue to pay it for as long as you live. Food for thought next time someone tells you it’s a good idea to press pause on the economy.

This might be the stupidest financial proposal in the history of western civilization. Divesting from treasuries meant to manage short term liquidity needs so as to stick it to Trump. And this person is our city treasurer!! I’m sure the budget negotiations are going swimmingly…
Just when you think things can’t get dumber… They can! This is our city Treasurer! Perhaps she has better ideas on managing short term liquidity… We are governed by fools. Don’t think they’ll have me back to testify in front of the Finance Committee now that I’ve said that…

it is vitally important for america that mamdani get elected mayor of NYC. he can help maximally and swiftly tax the rich, stand up govt-run grocery stores, eliminate the police force, freeze rents, and make public transportation free.. it’s unlikely that taxing the rich will cause them to move to other cities (collapsing nyc tax revenue), or that city-run grocery stores will fail to increase fresh vegetable consumption in the inner city, or that elimination of the NYPD will cause a rise in crime and decline in quality of life, or that freezing rents will drive landlords to dump properties (collapsing prices and property tax revenue), or that free public transportation will result in union-led kleptocracy. no way. i’m sure this time socialism will be different… if Americans don’t want to learn the lessons of socialism’s failures elsewhere, we should aim to learn them here as quickly as possible. let’s make sure one or two cities and states fall apart fast so the rest don’t have to.. elect mamdani! after accruing $2 trillion in student loan debt, that they will never be able to pay down, it’s no surprise “the college educated in nyc are supporting mamdani 61-39”. the current system has failed them. but the truth is, more government may not be the answer when too much government (indiscriminate federal student loans regardless of cost or quality of degree or institution) may have gotten them to this moment. a gentle reminder, though, that an articulate ignoramus isn’t more correct than his less charismatic/authentic political rival. facts, data, truth still stand above theory, innuendo, and bullshit. socialism won’t work. if we have to re-learn that lesson the hard way, let’s do it fast and elect mamdani.
You Heard It Here First. Friedberg's Most Contrarian Belief for 2025: "A dramatic rise  in socialist movements in the US." According to Polymarket, Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani has closed a massive gap on Andrew Cuomo over the past month for the Democratic nomination for NYC Mayor. Mamdani's chances jumped from ~6% to 55%, while Cuomo fell from 93% to 45%. On June 23, Mamdani surged ahead of Cuomo after a surprise poll showed him ahead. This tracks Friedberg's 2025 prediction of a "dramatic rise  in socialist movements in the US." Here was his explanation in early January: " My contrarian belief is that we'll see a rise, a dramatic rise, in socialist movements in 2025 in the United States." "And I think that some industries and some companies are going to be huge winners and some companies are going to be huge losers." "There's gonna be some parts of the economy that are gonna be big winners and some parts of the economy that are gonna be big losers." "When you have this sort of a change this fast, there are often large contingents of people that are left behind." "And when that happens, I do think that the socialist policies and the socialist movements gain steam."

He is not an anti-vaxxer. You are slandering him. I am so disappointed in you. I have been a big supporter of yours for many years. The Democratic Party has lost its soul, and I am sorry to say you are big part of the reason. I am saddened to see you fall so low. Look around your neighborhood and the other poorest neighbors in the City. Focus on the least advantaged New Yorkers. They are the epicenter of the health crisis facing our children and citizens. Obesity, diabetes, and many other preventable chronic diseases can be stopped without medication. @RobertKennedyJr is uniquely positioned to lead this charge. Your efforts to stop his appointment and the continuation of current health policies will lead to the death of many Americans. And yes, he is right to question vaccine safety and vaccine policies. The proliferation of vaccines, the timing of a child’s life when they are administered, the liability exemption for pharmaceutical companies, all need to be carefully analyzed and reassessed. And I am not referring to polio and measles vaccines nor is @RobertKennedyJr as he made clear today. The Democratic senators in the hearing today embarrassed themselves and our country with their bloviating statements and their unwillingness to let RFK speak. They were more interested in hearing their own words than getting to the truth about Bobby Kennedy. We need to wipe the slate clean with the Democratic Party. It has failed and continued to fail the American people. And I say this as a centrist American who historically supported Democrats. How low can you go?

This is so damning. By the time Biden administration rolled out their vaccine mandate, they had published data that vaccination could not halt transmission. It had no benefit to third parties, and ergo was unethical prima facia. Sad they sunk this low.
HOLY SHLIT. Mark Zuckerberg says the Biden admin called his employees and “screamed and cursed” at them to take down Covid/vaccine content. They wanted Meta to censor memes too. When he pushed back, the Biden regime started investigating his companies. “It was brutal.”

If I recall it was the Biden-Harris administration and not Trump that colluded with social media to censor scientists critical of lockdowns, masking kids, and vaccine mandates. Unconstitutionally subverting the right to disagree. @DrJBhattacharya

They also wasted billions on Paxlovid, useless free tests, and boosters no one wanted. Crying covid and wasting money is their specialty.
BREAKING: Biden/Harris administration spent nearly a billion dollars promoting COVID-era messaging, much of which was later found to be untrue or misleading, according to a Congressional report.

Let’s be clear… Anyone proposing or supporting the taxation of *unrealized* capital gains is not a serious person. An ignorant and dangerous idea. Punishing investors for daring to hold assets long-term and destabilizing markets. An attack on capitalism and individual wealth.

Well, it didn’t seem like the Harris campaign could get much worse after pushing price controls, but mandating “up to date” COVID vaccines in late 2024 is about as bad as it gets
🚨🚨🚨KAMALA MANDATING COVID VAX TO WORK FOR HER! "Harris for President requires all employees to be "up to date" on COVID-19 vaccination status as prescribed by the CDC as a condition of employment, unless otherwise prohibited by applicable law."

Under the old Twitter, @realDonaldTrump's account was permanently deactivated. Earlier today, under new ownership, Trump hosted the largest @XSpaces of all-time. Imagine that most academics believe that the former was just and the latter is "dangerous." This tells you all that you need to know about how intellectuals view the free exchange of ideas. Ideas with which they vehemently disagree are "dangerous," "far-right," "hate speech," "misinformation," and "disinformation." Most intellectuals are enemies of liberty.
