I’m not surprised to see social media influencers coming forward to say they were offered money to push doomer messages about AI. These are well organized, well funded campaigns.

David Friedberg: The Socialists Are Coming for Your Private Property Rights At a recent hearing held by NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a speaker equated evictions with violence. @friedberg says this demonization of landlords and the good/evil moralistic framing are signals that socialists are trying to erode private property rights in America. “In 1787, John Quincy Adams had a comment, ‘The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the laws of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence.’ Private property rights are the foundations of liberty in America. Because if you think about where everyone that came to America was coming from, there were these tyrannical governments where some overlord or some cabal could decide at any point to take the things that you have. You had no private property rights as an individual. And it was that stasis that drove so many to come to the United States and say, ‘We want a place where individuals, one person, can say, I own something, and no one can take it from me.’ This idea that you can then claim acts of violence, that you can then claim circumstances of extraordinary extravagant wealth, and say to that individual, ‘I now have a right, the government now has a right to take your private property,’ ultimately leads to this tyrannical form. And it starts out as being anarchic, and remember, anarchy is a temporary state. It's always in between one state and another. All anarchies end up in tyranny, so anarchy and tyranny are one in the same. And fundamentally, what's going on with these socialist principles is that, ‘We are taking your private property, and you no longer have rights on your private property. We now will have the right to come in and take your property and control it and take it from you.’ And it always starts with this framing of moralistic intent. ‘We are good, you are bad for the following reasons. You have committed violence against the people that live in your building.’ So the first framing is that the private property owner is evil, and that the private property owner has committed an act of injustice against those who don't have the private property. And that is the justification for taking away their private property rights. And it is the beginning of this transition towards a tyrannical system, which will ultimately be what I call this kind of Great American Politburo or whatever socialist framework gets set up by the cabal of the socialists and what they're trying to put together. So all of these little acts, while seeming ridiculous, and insane, and inappropriate, in aggregate are the same thing: They're a transition away from private property rights, which is the foundation of the United States of America. That's why I think we should all be so shocked. And to John Quincy Adams' point, we need to vehemently defend those rights. As soon as those rights start to slip away, even in the tiniest way, it is a cascading effect, and everything will become tyrannical, and it will be very ugly in the United States of America.”

I would like to see you make a voluntary contribution of 5% of your family’s $200M net worth to the government for important healthcare, childcare, and jobs. Don’t worry, it’s just one-time. Your $10M contribution will provide free childcare for over 1,000 California kids for a year! Once you’ve made your personal contribution to a more just and equitable society, I’ll support all your other asset seizure ideas. But you gotta go first…

government destroys value. in this case, the value of an American education was destroyed in ~40 years. if there’s no marketplace for customers (parents of students) to demand value (quality of education for price paid) by simply going to another service provider (school or educator), it is inevitable that costs will go up and quality will go down. this is true of any service provided by government, which effectively grants itself a monopoly, deleting the opportunity for other service providers to compete in offering better value to customers/citizens…
When Jimmy Carter purchased the teachers’ union’s endorsement in 1979 by establishing the Department of Education, the USA was #1 in education. 46 years and $4.1 trillion dollars later, the USA is #40. We are, however, #1 in cost per student.

never thought i’d say this… i wholeheartedly agree with elizabeth warren. also, term limits. being an elected representative should not be a career. there should be no path for wealth creation or perpetual income from representing the interests of the people, in service of the people. private citizens should enter public service, leave, and return to private life, as the founders intended. “politician” has become a lucrative career option for those skilled at public oration and persuasion. while they may represent their constituents’ interests, the reelection mandate incentivizes short-term decision-making and voting, often counter to the long-term interests of the people. and having unfettered private market access while holding the privileged position of influence over, and non-public knowledge of, those markets will inevitably incentivize bad behavior, to the politician’s benefit, and the public’s detriment. these ideals may be too far-fetched for our modern political machinery to consider - they would be self-defeating of the machines themselves - but the citizens can still be deafeningly loud in demanding them. thx senator warren for getting this half-right.. also, term limits.
It's time for us to ban stock trading for all members of Congress, for the vice president, and for the president. Period.

at @ohalo, we got the nuts ..
Last week, we completed the first harvest of Ohalo's Fruition One almond trees with our partner Sierra Gold Nurseries. As expected, our extraordinary advance delivers a Nonpareil almond tree (the #1 almond variety grown) that is self-fertile. For the first time ever, growers do not need to plant pollenizer trees, or use bees to cross-pollinate trees. The FruitionOne simply pollinates itself and produces beautiful Nonpareil almonds with boosted yields. This means an almond grower can plant a single tree variety in their orchard, eliminating the second harvest, ending or reducing the use of bees for pollination, while realizing higher revenue per-acre as lower-value trees are removed. We estimate FruitionOne should deliver almond growers 40%+ net profit improvement, while dramatically reducing water use per almond produced and reducing or ending the use of bees in almond production. Below is Sierra Gold's CEO, Reid Robinson, sharing a video of the result. Contact Sierra Gold to place your order today. As the poker saying goes - looks like we got the nuts!

it’s not political and should not be partisan to ask “where did all the money go?” California’s functional bankruptcy threatens the nation and should be a front-and-center state and national discussion. ignore the bs. this is what matters.
BREAKING: David @friedberg says "California is functionally bankrupt" "People don't realize how screwed California is, & I worry that if California falls, so does the union. "$250 billion to $1 trillion short." "This is because for California to get rescued would be a big cost to red states, & I think it creates in the years ahead a lot of tension." "California's functional bankruptcy is a major risk to the country. & I think we need to figure out what we can change to fix it." How we got here: "California has a public pension system, & that public pension system retirees have paid into it & they get some benefits out, & the amount that they're owed back out is somewhere between $250 billion - $1 trillion dollars more than has been paid in. $250 billion to $1 trillion short. If it was the federal government, it would be like, okay, we'll just print more money. California doesn't have the ability to print money, so California has to pay this out, and you can't restructure retirement benefits. There is a Supreme Court case in California that said that once an employee has been offered retirement benefits, even if they're currently an employee, you can never restructure their retirement benefits. It has to stay forever, and the state cannot declare bankruptcy. There's no way for the state to functionally declare bankruptcy. There's no law to allow it. No state has ever declared bankruptcy, and the retirement benefits sit senior to the bonds in California. So you have to pay out the retirement benefits before you pay out all the bond holders that have loaned California the money that they use to run all their programs and services." Jevons paradox is happening in real time. Companies, especially outside of tech, are realizing that they can now afford to take on software projects that they wouldn’t have been able to tackle before because now AI lets them do so. We’re going to start to use software for all new things in the economy because it’s incrementally cheaper to produce. Marketing teams at big companies will have engineers helping to automate workflows. Engineers in life sciences and healthcare will automate research. Small businesses will hire engineers for the first to build better digital experiences. And as long as AI agents still require a human who understands what to prompt, how to review when an agent goes off the rails, how it guide back, how to maintain the system that was built, how to fix the ongoing bugs, and more, we will still have humans managing these agents. This is why all the advice you get of not going into engineering is wrong. The world is going to increasingly be made up of software, and the people that understand it best will be in a strong economic position. This will happen in other roles as well where output goes up and demand increases.
Engineering job openings are at the highest levels we’ve seen in over 3 years There are over 67,000 (!!!) eng openings at tech companies globally right now, with 26,000 just in the U.S. We don’t know if there would have been more open roles if not for AI or if AI is actually leading to more open roles, but since the start of this year, the increase in open eng roles is accelerating even more.
