POV: Guinness World Records has become so cheap.
When I was in school, getting into Guinness World Records actually meant something. The records were so incredible that they became part of our GK books and even appeared in competitive exams.
Now, they’ll give a world record for literally anything.
Longest fingernails.
Most socks worn on one foot.
Fastest time to eat a bowl of pasta with chopsticks.
Most sticky notes stuck on your face in one minute.
Largest gathering of people dressed as Smurfs.
Who wakes up one day and thinks, ‘I’m going to break the world record for wearing 300 T-shirts at once’?
These aren’t achievements anymore. They’re just random acts that nobody ever wanted to do, and nobody else will ever care enough to break.
Guinness World Records went from celebrating extraordinary human achievements to handing out certificates for the most meaningless things imaginable.
It used to inspire people. Now it’s just content farming with a certificate.
