It’s time to pull ourselves together, and do what needs to get done. Over 50% of Americans decided what they wanted loud and clear last Tuesday, but that doesn’t mean progress still can’t be made. While this may have been a “defeat” in the short term, we will prevail.

Where did Trump voters get their news? 📰 Yes, there's social and partisan sites, but there is another influential strategy that isn't getting enough attention: Manipulated, pay-to-play and all out fake news sites I've been covering a mix of those for years. Here's a primer 🧵

Dear Madam VP, There are no words for the admiration and inspiration so many of us feel. You have paved the way for women and girls and anyone with a dream and a humble beginning. You made many personal sacrifices and dedicated years to public service and you become one of the most qualified people to lead our country. You extended your arms, made an extra plate, pulled up a chair — for us, the people. And you gave us permission to dream and to lean into our aspirations together.  Thank you for your steadfast leadership and for rising to the occasion in an unprecedented election. This moment is not a reflection of what you’ve done but of the work we need to do. As you gracefully offered at the podium today, the light of America’s promise will always burn bright as long as we keep fighting for it. With joy, with enthusiasm, and with conviction. And we will.

Kamala Harris was the perfect candidate and she ran a beautiful campaign of joy, empathy, and unity. She just happened to run in a nation that is addicted to nihilism, cruelty, and division.

America put a convicted felon in the White House before a woman. The message we just sent to the world. Yikes.

We must not delude ourselves in this moment. Multiracial democracy in the United States is less than 60 years old. It has always been contested, often violently so. It has always been fragile. Since this nation's inception large swaths of white Americans -- including white women -- have claimed a belief in democracy while actually enforcing a white ethnocracy. In the face of shifting demographics where white Americans will lose their numeric majority, we see a growing embrace of autocracy to keep the "legitimate" rulers of this country in power. History teaches us that we are in a perilous moment.

We’re going to see some widespread effects here in every sector of U.S. society. It’s about to be a crazy ride. But do tell us when the “price of eggs” go down.

This country is so whack

This is a dark, dark day for people around the globe. The world’s largest economy and most powerful military will be led by a dangerous, destructive demagogue.

Trump will be inaugurated in on MLK Day. Let that sink in.

Despite today’s horrific outcome, VP Harris ran a phenomenal campaign in a little over 3 months (in my view). Despite their best efforts, there wasn’t much that would have significantly altered this election. Yikes.

Six years ago, the #MA7 sent me to Washington with a mandate for transformative change. Today, you decisively re-elected me as your Congresswoman for a fourth term. From the bottom of my heart, I am so grateful for your partnership and your support.

Notice, by the way, that Trump’s claims of “cheating” in Pennsylvania have magically dissipated. He’s a liar to the core—but our country doesn’t mind.

Overall, Harris was asked to do the impossible. To defy history and the present, unify, and heal a country in a little less than 3 months. I hate this race didn’t contradict what we already know about the country.

Update from the Battleground in the Empire State. Democrats have now flipped four Republican-held House seats in New York this year. Congrats @JoshRileyUE on a critically-important victory for the People’s House. Onward.

The first convicted felon to serve as president of the United States

Kamala Harris didn't lose, America did. As a nation, we collectively failed her—and in doing so we failed girls and women, the LGBTQ community, people of color, Muslims, Jewish people, immigrants, the sick, the poor, the elderly, the people of Ukraine, and Gaza, and the planet. It's unthinkable, that instead of being able to celebrate a beautiful, hopeful new chapter in the story of this nation with a leader who appealed to the best of our natures—we will instead be holding a postmortem for democracy as we enter our 250th year, stewarded by a malevolent sociopath who despises empathy and shuns the law. I truly thought we were better than this, that our shared humanity would show up. I thought we would reject this hatred and ugliness once and for all. I hate being wrong about the majority of the people of this nation. I don't know what's ahead. All I know is that good-hearted human beings are more necessary now than ever. We did all that we could to avoid this moment, but now that it's here we'll just have to decide who we will be. There is no way to comprehend or measure how grievous an error this is, but the only thing the decent people of this nation can do is wake up tomorrow and fight like hell for what we still believe is worth the fight, and we will. I'll be doing that with whoever has the strength to join me. I'm mourning the country we could have been and the one we apparently are—but I refuse to give up believing that compassion is the right path, that diversity makes us better, and that love is greater than fear.
