Any relation to Thomas Polk? 🤔
Thomas Polk left Pennsylvania and settled in Mecklenburg County, where he was appointed Colonel of a NC militia regiment.
In September of 1777, he found himself back in Pennsylvania during the Revolutionary War.
When British forces approached, Polk was given the task of taking the bells out of the city to prevent the British from melting them down and turning them into cannon balls.
He is the reason the Liberty Bell survived the Revolution.
Polk returned to North Carolina and died in his Charlotte home in 1794.
