POLITICO: Republicans are in triage. After walking away from a Senate seat in North Carolina — a state Trump won three times — they are pouring money into South Carolina and Kansas, where Democrats have not won a Senate race in nearly a century.
“If the bottom continues falling out like it has been, this will be worse than 2006,” a GOP operative told Politico.
The House looks the same. National Republicans have already given up on the Nebraska seat Don Bacon is leaving, pulling money off races they no longer think they can win and sending it into deep-red seats that no longer look safe. In 2006, that kind of environment cost them the House and the Senate.
