Solana/Base politics and competitiveness aside, I think a lot of the discourse has stemmed from wrong interpretation of the data, and missing the forest for the trees.
As of right now, there have been 23 bridges/messages from Base to Solana, and 262 from Solana to Base. These numbers are easily verifiable as each Bridge contract/program stores an outbound nonce that gets incremented with each message sent.
That's not great, but as mentioned that's because there's no frontends for using this yet. We have one coming this week via @superbridge! We also got caught out by the timing of this release but we're working around the clock to get the integration out.
We also have a write up planned explaining this bridge in some more detail, it quite closely resembles a mix of the existing native bridge between Ethereum and Base + something like Wormhole/CCIP/CCTP, there are parallels with each which we'll highlight if people are interested.
The actual token bridging functionality is great, and as more user friendly frontends roll out we'll surely see more bridge activity, but it's ultimately a low level primitive and becomes more useful as things are built around it.
One great use case already highlighted, the bridge allows @RelayProtocol and other solvers or intent systems to rebalance certain assets more efficiently between Base and Solana. So users don't even interact with it, but it gets used behind the scenes.
Given time, we'll see more systems built around the bridge that take advantage of the cross-chain messaging system and its implicit security guarantees (ie I assume the same infra that runs Base runs this bridge).
