The night before a 17-year-old boy died, he wrote something on his bedroom wall. And when his mother read those words after his death, they would change the way she understood losing her son... ⤵️
His name was Marco Gallo, and he was just a normal teenager from Italy. He loved sports, hiking in the mountains, and spending time with his friends. But there was something about Marco that people never forgot.
He had this way of making everyone feel loved. One friend even said that whenever you were with him, it felt like you were the only person in the world.
Marco loved Jesus deeply. He read the Bible every day, went to Mass, received the sacraments, and always looked for ways to help people, especially those who were lonely.
But on November 4, 2011, something happened that his family would never forget.
That night, Marco wrote a Bible verse on his bedroom wall, right beside a cross. It said:
"Why do you seek among the dead the one who is alive?"
The very next day, Marco died in a car accident. He was only 17.
And what makes this even more moving is what he was carrying when he died.
Inside his wallet were a childhood photo, a small picture of the Virgin Mary, a few euros, and a handwritten promise he had made to God.
He had promised to seek God with all his strength and live every day as if it were his last.
Just think about that for a second. Marco had no idea his life was about to end, yet he was already trying to live every day for Jesus.
And remember those words on his bedroom wall?
His mother later shared how they helped her through the pain of losing him. Because those words reminded her that Jesus is alive, and that death is not the end.
But here's what makes Marco's story even more incredible.
On March 7, 2026, what would have been his 32nd birthday, the Archbishop of Milan officially opened his cause for beatification, the first step toward possibly being declared a saint.
Today, hundreds of people, especially young people, gather every year to remember him.
And maybe that's the most beautiful part of his story.
Marco wasn't a priest. He wasn't famous. He was just a teenager who loved Jesus and tried to make the people around him feel loved.
He didn't know he only had 17 years to live.
But he lived those years in a way that is still bringing people closer to God today.
💬 Do you believe someone can become a saint just by living an ordinary life with extraordinary love for God?
