Although I was personally torn on the referendum, from my vantage point this quote probably sums it up well for *most* Albertans.
My polling in Alberta and my visit to the province last month reaffirmed this conclusion. Albertans have been asked a question it did not want by a government it does not trust to answer it, about a country it is not prepared to give up, in the shadow of a neighbour it does not trust at all.

What I feel about this referendum is a mix of relief it's over, and even some resignation - I had hoped it would draw more attention to the structural inequalities in our Confederation. But I also think we have some deep healing to do in Alberta. Although they lost, 1 in 4 of Albertans are interested in separating. That is a significant number. I'm hoping now that the majority has spoken we can get back to building a stronger - and maybe Rath-free? 🤭 - Alberta. (Sorry, Jeffrey...Alberta's just no that into you.) We have much to accomplish. However you voted, I hope we can all remember tomorrow that we are strongest when we are united.

Either do mischief or journalism but not both and certainly don’t report on your own mischief and if you do then fucking own it honestly and maybe get some props for that rather than fundraising for years ($34,933! Using your kid’s drawing!) gofundme.com/f/duncan-kinney…

Dear Alberta, We know you’ve felt alienated by our coverage. Last week we even tossed in a token Albertan. Tonight, as you vote on your own future, four Easterners will explain what it all really means for you—because we can. We’ll call it a test of “cooperative federalism.” We’ll note that leverage is detestable (except from Quebec). We’ll observe that only some of you truly want separation, so the rest of your anger must be irrational. We’ll remind you the Premier is just saving her job and that referendums settle nothing. Your actual grievances will be acknowledged, then reframed as failure to understand the federation. It will never be about Eastern superiority or self-righteousness. But thank you for the tax dollars and resources that fund our $1.5 billion budget. Love, Brodie Fenlon Editor-in-Chief, CBC News, Toronto

My MBA is coming in handy in assessing the damage your NDP government has done to the economy, Craig, but it doesn’t take any business knowledge whatsoever to see the decimation of our downtowns and the worst private job creation record in Canada.

The judge argued that it is “cruel and unusual” punishment to block multiple murderers from applying for early parole. Canada’s judiciary is a joke.
A BC Supreme Court judge says a section of the Criminal Code restricting multiple murderers from applying for early parole is unconstitutional, resulting in delayed sentencing for 3 men in the killing of an Abbotsford couple. #bcpoli #cdnpoli fraservalleytoday.ca/2026/10…

A farmer, tired of rats destroying his crops and stealing his grain, came up with a clever but cruel plan. He threw a dead pig into a deep, abandoned well. Attracted by the smell, nearly 80 rats rushed into the well to feast on the carcass. At first, everything seemed wonderful. There was more than enough food for everyone, and the rats ate until they were satisfied. But when the food was gone, they discovered something terrifying. The walls of the well were too steep to climb. They were trapped. Days passed, and hunger turned into desperation. Desperation turned into aggression. The rats that had once eaten peacefully beside one another began fighting for survival. Eventually, they began killing and eating each other. One by one, their numbers dwindled until only a single rat remained. Its eyes were bloodshot, and it had survived by consuming its own kind. Then the farmer returned, lowered a rope into the well, and rescued the last surviving rat. But he didn't save it out of kindness or compassion. The farmer knew the rat had learned to survive by hunting other rats. When he released it into his fields, it would continue killing its own kind instead of eating his grain. The farmer had turned his enemy into his greatest weapon. And that is the lesson of divide and conquer. Those who control the trap don't need to fight the battles themselves. They simply create the conditions in which others turn against one another. The rats believed their enemies were the other rats. They never realized that the true enemy was the farmer who had put them there. The greatest danger isn't always the enemy standing in front of you. Sometimes it's the one who created the conflict and stands quietly watching you destroy each other. Before you turn against your neighbor because of their political beliefs, ask yourself who benefits from keeping Americans divided. While we fight each other over Republican and Democrat, we may be overlooking those who profit from the conflict. Perhaps the real question isn't which side you're on, but who built the well—and why they want us fighting at the bottom of it.

In so many cases, what happens in Europe eventually happens across the Atlantic. They are patient zero. We are running out of runway.
This is the movement that leaders like Macron and Carney have encouraged.

Once power becomes the most important thing to a political party, it starts calculating which demographics it needs in order to hold power, the security and well-being of the country be damned.
Macron recognized “Palestine” to appease the same people burning down France. It was never about the children of Gaza.

What a nightmare. The Liberal lost decade was run by a freshman drama club crying and scolding each other. Want to know why Alberta is having an independence referendum and nine questions taking back control from Ottawa? Look no further than this book and its author.

This should be a wake up call to many. Canada is transforming before our eyes.
It is an astonishing fact that half of all births in several Canadian provinces are to mothers not born in Canada. Immigration is 4-7 times native births. Canada is witnessing one of the fastest demographic transformation in history and will soon be less European than Mexico.

And he dared attack Jimmy Pattison and others to kick off his campaign? Staggering hypocrisy
Just now, David Eby confirms that he has his kids in $10/day taxpayer-subsidized daycare. Approx. only 10% of BC daycare spots offer $10/day daycare. Most families who want in can't get a spot. As Premier, Eby earns $227k/year. Eby's wife is a doctor. Their household income is likely well over half a million dollars per year. We don't resent British Columbians who are successful (we want more people to succeed). But where there are wait lists, surely a wealthy family like Eby's shouldn't be taking advantage of $10/day daycare. Think about a working single mother? David Eby deserves the spot more than her?
