ok a short primer on why young people in India are getting frustrated and what i'm observing around me. not mincing my words: - roughly 15 lakh (~1.5m) engineers graduate per year (~100 lak or 10m across every degree), - had a rough period with Covid, - now AI coming which is touted to take a few (many?) digital jobs, - many can't find meaningful work (by meaningful I mean something that doesn't fit the definition of a job in David Graeber's Bullshit Jobs), - stock market has not grown recently, so no capital gains with your savings, - inflation eating away at what you have, - we are not inherently a manufacturing country the way China is, and ordinary people don't know how to enter manufacturing either, - no R&D muscle, so everyone who wants to do research *has* to go abroad (our R&D expenditure is only like 0.7% of GDP), - huge barrier and learning curve to get into anything physical, - corruption and bureaucracy which makes it challenging to do things in the physical world, software was the only haven, - housing prices ballooning with real estate sitting in its own bubble ($300k for an average apartment), - you're not guaranteed a job after college now, like you were 10 years ago. true hiring is down across the board because we have trained ourselves in an abundance of digital skills and now they're being automated away, - infra in metros like Bangalore are worse than ever before, so no solace in the physical world, - rising costs are outpacing entry level salaries, exacerbated by war which means even cost of basic goods don't deflate for a while, - degrees are mostly worthless, - emigration is much harder now and not as high ROI as before, if you're not top 0.1%, - and most importantly, economy is becoming K shaped because of AI, which basically means only a few will be valued because they are top 1% and all of the value/wealth will accrue with them, making it difficult for the rest my only hope is that in the long term, tech is the one true deflationary factor, which hopefully fixes a lot of this

insane , i couldn't even muster up the courage to watch this video . May she regain her strength .
She Lost Both Her Parents in Kailash Mansarovar Yatra . Out of nowhere I saw her video and she was crying And it is one of the most heartbreaking stories to come out of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra tragedy. Tanvi’s parents had travelled to Nepal for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. On August 26, they went missing after the devastating floods near the Nepal-China Just four days later, Tanvi had her NEET-PG examination. She still went to the exam centre and she had no idea if her parents dead or alive . And completed the exam while crying . She just gave the exam because she believed her parents would have wanted her to keep going. And now its been a month and now she has accepted they wont come back . This is a incredibly sad story
